OK, I got Messiah to 22-4 overall regular season, 15-1 conference play, I'm in the Conference Tournament Championship game with a 24-4 record, the best RPI & best SOS this team has ever seen, I've also won the Confernce Championship for the first time in 10 seasons, and I've won 17 straight games, how the hell am I not the Conference Coach of the Year???

Because like it or not, CCOY is a Most Improved award. It doesn't heavily factor in most of the stuff you're saying (having the best SOS/RPI the program's seen really shouldn't be much of a criteria, anyway). It almost always to the coach whose team has made the biggest jump from one season to the next.

It's not perfect and I don't love it ... but that's how it's been for a long time. (Also, simply having the best team shouldn't necessarily make you the COY.)

The more I look at this, the more I see why you didn't disclose anything. You took over a sim team that had been historically bad but won 20 games last season as a sim. You've played absolutely no one (not your fault), and are 1-1 against the only NT team you played. Almost every single one of those 17 wins is vs. a sim. The guyt that won it took his team from 13-14 to 21 wins, along with a better rpi and a much better SOS than you, and one game worse in the conference.

This is hardly an injustice.

How on earth can you know that you have the best SOS in school history?

COY doesn't always go to the most-improved.  My Arcadia team (Naismith DIII) has won 66 consecutive conference games and is 132-1 over the last 7 seasons in conference play.  I've won COY in 5 of the 7 seasons.

This year,   COY went to Springfield, which improved from 1-26 to 21-7.  Well-deserved!   Ironically, the 1-26 team was human-coached.  Sim took over and won the award.

That's hilarious.

Dash, the SOS was a typo, I meant to say best Conf. record in school history, but my brain got typing faster than my fingers.

Girt, I never said it was an injustice, just that I didn't understand it. I see and understand your point and agree "in general" with what you said, but KY's statement also holds true. Glenville in my WVIAC of Allen is a good example of that as well and has won 4 of 7 or 5 of 7 with the same type of record, et. al. 27-4 to 29-2.

If I go back and look at RPI from last year, Etown went from 185 to 29 and I went from 74 to 57, so I would agree with most improved, but not best Coach. In the 19 or so seasons I've played in Allen, be it in D111 or D11, in the conferences I've been in, most if not all of the Coach of the Year awards have gone to just about everyone who has the best Conference record, and or, the regular season Conference Championship. I still hold by my original comment.

It's generally the most improved team/coach that gets it. The exception comes if there's no team in the conference that made a significant leap, then it will simply go to a/the top team.
