LP & 3pt settings Topic

If you've got a guard that has a very low LP rating and a decent PER rating, is it necessary to set his 3pt setting at +1 or +2 to be effective ? If he's set to -1 or -2, does that mean he'll take a lot of ineffective shots in the paint? Or will he be likely to take more 2pt jumpers outside of the paint? Thanks.

the ratio of per to lp is somehow involved in determination of type of shot attempted. This was clear immediately after the new engine when low lp guards were jacking wayyy to many threes. There is a minimum value in there somehow now. I rarely use positive values for 3 pt setting, and only if the PER is particularly high, but I am a bit conservative. I do think that if you set to negative you will increase attempts in the paint, while positive will increase 3s in general though, so going negative with poor lp I think is risky, but I don't know for certain...

I suspect (hope?) the player's ATH, SPD, BH also contribute to his choice ratio of mid-range vs drive-to-basket. And IQ may govern his ability to make the "best" choice given a particular defensive situation. Now it may be a very low LP pretty much precludes the drive, regardless of other skills. But I haven't studied any PBPs in an effort to figure this out.
