if 2 clubs offer max contracts with no trade clauses, how is the tie broken, i thought it was  previous seasons record, then pitching coaches

From the Updates thread in the Critical News forum:

  • The logic for when two ML free agents or International free agents are offered the same value for a contract will see some adjustments.  There will be a few tiebreakers introduced before relying on the time the first contract was offered. The tiebreakers are as follows: Playoff contention (based on last seasons winning %), coaching staff, and ballpark.

And:

  • When comparing free agent contracts of the exact same value we are now incorporating loyalty with their previous franchise. If a player has been with a franchise for more than 5 seasons that franchise will have a significant advantage during the negotiation process.

And the no-trade clause does not add any value to the contract unless the player demands it.

And

"The tiebreakers are as follows: Playoff contention (based on last seasons winning %), coaching staff, and ballpark."

is misleading in my opinion, because it makes it seem (to me) like a hierarchy, where wining % is looked at first and only if tied do you move on to staff. Really, all three are considered from the start.

The other team was willing to go to $110M, but not willing to add a player option? Somehow I doubt that is the case.

Do you think you lose if it was based on the tiebreakers?

i had the 2nd best record in the league last season, and the team who had more wins was the guys former franchise, but he said they were out early. i  never had the top bid until i offered the max deal with a player option for the last year

so i think the other team had the player option the whole time and it never made it the tie breaker till i added the option
