I'm in a prog that started in 1901, now in 1915 (56 games in).  Honus Wagner just became the 1st player in this prog to record 3000 career hits -- meaning he's averaged 200+ hits a season since the prog started.

One other player will reach 3000 hits this season (he's 17 hits away right now).  Any guesses as to which player that is?

Cobb or Speaker?

No, they don't have enough seasons (Cobb started in 1905 and has over 2100 hits, Speaker started in 1908).

The player who's close to 3000 has played all 15 seasons of this prog.

Nap LaJoie?

Lajoie would be my guess as wel

Lajoie is 3rd on the list with 2788, and with his career winding down he probably won't reach 3000.

Crawford?

Sam Crawford?

He's a very underrated player historically.

if you get a chance what exactly is a progressive league? Do you keep the same players every year or get new ones according to what team you have?  What happens when the salaries go up each year?

I fielded a pretty terrible team in that league for a few seasons... probably greatly contributed to Wagner and Crawford's hit totals.  Like to think I left the team with a well stocked cupboard of prospects and picks... they were supposed to get competitive around 1915/16.

As an aside... if anyone here hasn't read the book, The Glory of Their Times by Lawrence Ritter, it's a great oral history of baseball in the early days of the 20th century.  Sam Crawford's chapter is especially good.

I would have guessed Crawford!

He was my first progressive player to get 3000 hits - in a double progressive mainly playing in the Astrodome.  His numbers from 1902/2004 to 1916/1990 (the league is heading into the 1928/1978 draft)
