There is a guy I would really like to get that was considering a D+ prestige DII SIM. I am at a B- prestige in DIII. This guy is only 40 miles from my school. Any idea of how much effort (scouting visits) it would take in order to pull him away from the SIM school.

High or low priority for the sim?

FSS says he's "a very high priority for them". probably shouldnt try to go after him. How much would it be if they aren't a priority because there is another guy that is low priority for another school that I could go after. Thanks for any help.

I just made a thread on this, and based on some D2 vs. D2 data and some translation of recruiting credits it looks like a high priority could easily cost 40-50+ scouting trips to pull down.  In general a low priority takes no more than the upper 20s, and usually significantly lower than that.

thanks, that helps out alot

It's not just you have to pull him down with alot of SVs, you also have to then beat the sim with HV/CV.

When you are looking at priority, disregard FSS at first. Look at the overall (or position) rankings of who is considering the sim PRIOR to the first cycle (you can do it during the 1st cycle but I've found after 4 central but before 5 to be a good time for me) you can see who was all considering a simmy right away and be fairly accurate with who their money is in.

This is more D1 specific then D2, because I don't ever recommend fighting a D1 school from d2.

You also have to take 2 other things into consideration.

1. It usually takes at least a A/A+ prestige to steal a guy from the next level up, so with a B- your chances are iffy at best and,

2. You have to look at the SIM schools recruiting tab. If the player is the only one there, you don't have enough money to outbid the school, but if he is one of 4 or 5, you may be able to put up enough of a fight that he runs out of money in the bidding war because he has 3 or 4 others to consider and you can possibly steal him because the SIM still has others he needs, wants, or are not in a bidding war and he can get them more easily. NOTE: it doesn't always work, sometimes that one specific recruit is the main one the SIM wants.

@ Court:

1) I couldn't disagree more, particularly when it comes to D3 poaching from D2, which is the smarter possibility.  In D3 the actual multiplier value from prestige is very small.  As long as a player will consider both schools (ie both are backup options), there's very little difference between an A+ and a C-, maybe 10-15% at most.  B- to A+ is almost certainly no more than 10% and that's a very conservative estimate.

2) This is just totally wrong.  Sims don't put in any additional effort once they've put their effort into a recruit.  There's no "running out of money in the bidding war" with a SIM.  It's just a matter of whether you can outspend what they already put in.  The point itself isn't really wrong - a low priority guy is easier than a high-priority guy, and if the sim only has 1 recruit considering them he's almost always a high priority.  But the description of the process is very misleading...

I thought I read a few posts here that claimed to discover that Sims continue to put money into a recruit right up to the last cycle?

You can tell which one is the main recruit for a simmy if you are able to see who is all considering them the first cycle.

#2 - somewhat inaccurate because of considering credit, while you are correct that the Sim won't drop more money into a recruit (unless this has changed recently, my understanding is they 'save money' to bid on other recruits after signings) his recruiting effort does increase throughout the recruiting period, which basically means don't wait til to jump on if you want to try.
