Managerial setting for injury prevention Topic

We get a lots of moans and groans (and an occasional wimper from me) about injuries, so how about giving owners some small amount of control over it? ANY sense of control will greatly reduce the complaints, and also add another interesting twist.

One way would be to create an injury-prevention managerial setting. 'Aggressive' would allow players to play despite the ingrown-toenail. 'Conservative' would have the manager pull the player at the first whiff of trouble. Aggressive might be set for those who are pushing for or in the playoffs, at the increased risk of injuries occurring. Conservative might be done by those with a low Medical budget, but their key players get pulled more often in favor of a backup. Aggressive is for the risk-taker. Conservative rewards those teams with good depth.

Taking this to the maxx, you could adjust this managerial setting based on the rated intelligence of the bench coach, should they take over.

Say "YES" to less whining!

Paying attention to health ratings go a long way towards injury prevention.

That would do nothing to stop the whining.  It would just change the whining from "My best two starting pitchers just went down with 260 day injuries.  WAHHHHHH" to "I had my injury prevention set to "moderately conservative", and my top starting pitcher still went down with a 260 day injury. WAHHHHHHH".

HBD has many fewer injuries than MLB. If anything, WIS injuries should be more common.

That would shift the balance a little toward rewarding owners who invest in backups & depth instead of those who just spend on their top 15 players.

I doubt they'll do this, as there would probably be even more whining.

I'd rather see lingering injuries sap players' skills but still allow us to play them, albeit at greater risk of more serious injury.

Agreed. If my stud CF pulls his groin, he can probably keep playing out the season, but maybe his range and speed are reduced to 80% of where they were before. If I put him on the DL for a month, he fully recovers. If I keep playing him, his performance is reduced and his likelihood for further injuries are adjusted accordingly.

That lingering injuries idea is what I was trying to get at, travisg. An "Aggressive" setting would allow the player to play despite the low-grade injury.
