How to attack a good FCP? Topic

Short and sweet - how best to go after the press - any tips?

make good use of your top tier scoring, since he cannot DT

isn't press kind of an always double the ball though?

i guess to an extent. but just because you distro a guy more than normal, doesn't A. necessarily mean he'll handle the ball more or B. that he wont cause havoc on the fcp defense, if in fact he does see more handling of the ball. All that needs to be done is the press needs to be broken, defense scrambles, ball  should bemoved to the open man

thats how you constantly beat me @NMH with what i felt sometimes under perim'd guards....you constantly broke my press

I wasn't intentionally overloading - oh wait - that's when Alvin Keegen was there right? I rode him hard...he actually got drafted. Cool - I guess I got lucky with the right strategy just by going with what I was already doing...those teams weren't terribly balanced I don't believe... thx dwoe

1. Slow them down
2. Play your players who are least likely to turn the ball over
3.  Attack inside

wow, i could argue ALMOST the exact opposite as trentonjoe--

1) attack with speed (uptempo) to build up fouls
2) Play your best ATH/SPD guys and scorers (but you do have to consider PA/BH in determining who's likely to score vs the press)
3) shoot more 3s, because the press defends 3s poorly.

I don't necessarily think either way is right (really, it's case-by-case for me), i just think it's interesting that there are 2 effective methods that are at nearly the opposite ends of the spectrum.

Well, I should preface mine with that's how I would beat a FB/FCP uptempo team.

I should also state, I am not an elite coach, plenty of people are better than me at this, take everything I type with a grain (or 30) of salt.

Wronoj, doesn't the right answer depend a great deal on one's personnel?  If I'm short on guys with high Stam, I will usually play slowdown.  But I've beaten some FB/FCP teams by also setting guards who have decent LP/high SPD to -2 and getting them inside to draw the foul.

Agree that it depends.

I think you just play to your strengths.  Personally, I think the most effective way to beat a press is to attack the basket and draw fouls.  If I had elite perimeter shooters, I might shoot threes.  But I'm not going to overload a weakness (or something that isn't a strength) simply because I'm playing the press.

Don't over think it.

I tend to bump up the distro of anybody who scores inside a few points against the press and play uptempo if I have the personnel for it.  Foul out a couple of guys or seriously limit their minutes and you can really improve your odds against a tough press team...

Maybe it is me but my press teams are usually deeper than my opponents.  Because I (almost) exclusively recruit SPD/ATH  my players almost always look the same.  The difference btw my 1st and 2nd team usually isn't as pronounced as my opponents.

Also, I tend to recruit and play 12 (as opposed to the 9-11 that many others do).  When people try to uptempo me it falls right in my wheelhouse.

I tend to do many of the same things, however I usually only play 10 players.
