Ok...I'm doing it. Help!

I have been playing WiS for years and have never excelled. I had always enjoyed it passively and never really made it a priority to get better at the game until the last few seasons. I am at Penn State in Wooden and only have one team that I focus on. I am pretty busy and cannot justify having more than one team, so I have devoted all my energy to this team. I do "Ok" at recruiting with some years where I am pretty satisfied with my haul and others where I am disappointed, but never either end of the extreme.

My real weakness, I feel, is in planning for games. I have tried hard the last few seasons to focus on game planning strategy and tried to isolate mismatches etc. for ~85% of my games (I can't always get around to it). I have gone about attempting to get better by lurking on this forum a lot but I have decided I need to be a more active participant if I am to actually improve. With that said, I will be answering various threads that are started from here on out in an attempt to put my opinion and thoughts out there in the hopes that I can either get them confirmed or corrected.

If anyone has any critiques of my team or situation I would love to hear them, as you can see I just can't seem to get over the hump and have a real good season.

For starters, a lack of athleticism among your post players (for a competitive Big 6 team) appears to be a problem.

I honestly did not even realize my athleticism numbers were generally low. I tend to focus more on the core skill ratings when I am recruiting because as I moved from DIII to DII and low DI I focused so much on athleticism that I felt like I should go a different way in order to win any of the recruiting battles for the better DI recruits.

I understand that high ATH ratings supplement and go hand in hand with good LP/REB/DEF ratings, but I have tried to focus more on DEF than anything else when I recruit. I take it I should shift some focus away from the skill ratings themselves and focus more on ATH ratings?

ath/spd trumps the other ratings. 

20+ better ATH should almost always win.  I would take a guy with 70 Ath, 60 Reb, and 45 LP over a guy with 45 Ath, 75 Reb, and 75 LP, for example.  On the other hand, if you give the 2nd guy 100 reb, 90+ LP, and very good DEF, SB, and BH, maybe he's got a shot.  But you get the point.
