Realizing Spring Training benefits Topic

Quick question (I think):  Spring Training is supposed to benefit minor leagues by giving them a chance to work with the superior ML coaches for a while. (Perhaps there is also experience bonus given the higher competition.) So do you realize this coaching benefit only by playing the player, or do they benefit just by being on the ST team?

I ask because you can 'use up' some of their stamina for the season, so why do it unless there is a benefit specifically to playing in the majors in Spring Training.

They need some PT in order to get the gains.  I limit my position player prospects to around 25 AB, and my pitchers to 3-4 appearances with low pitch counts.,

I had a recent ticket answered about ST playing time. It said that it was *games* played, not necessarily at-bats or innings pitched. I thought that was an interesting distinction.

Sometimes young players can get an opening day bump without playing at all in ST

Well sure the ones with great Make-Up....oh wait.

Yeah, I was gonna say players not even on the ST roster can get bumps.

Ha! 4 owners, 4 different opinions. Gotta put stock in hypnotoad's response from support, although you can never be sure if they meant that distinction, or used careless wording. Just in case, I think I'll try to pull target players as early as possible.

Took me about 5 seconds to find an example.  Notice difference between ST and OD ratings.  Notice lack of any ST playing time.   And, trust me, he wasn't invited.  If he was, he wouldn't be in rookie ball 55 games into the season.

It would seem reasonable that there is some kind of possible improvement in ST across the board, for anyone in the franchise, with games played as a modifier. I guess they can't make things too predictable.

All your players have spring training. Some of those you choose to send to the big league camp, the others go to the various minor league versions. It is assumed (although I can't recall if it was ever confirmed) that those players in the ML camp get a higher benefit than would have been garnered at the minor league version from the same amount of experience.

Well put.

How can there be spring training for the minors? There is no schedule, no stats, nothing other than for the big league one. And no reason to have one for the minors. I assume any diffences between ST and OD for those who didn't play in the BL ST is just a bit more non-play growth, like Mike says. Those who get a benefit from the BL ST will see an advance in their Opening Day update that might be bigger than non-play growth. It's like they have taken care to hide any BL ST benefits!

There are "imaginary" minor league ST camps.

Oh. That's a surprise. But thanks for closing the loop for me Shobob!
