gratz to the mid major Topic

Surprised no one else mentioned it, but the D1 national champ in Iba is.................Dayton??  Huge congrats, must take a hell of an effort to win it all in a half full mid-major.  Amazing job.

No one mentioned it because it didnt happen. We all know that midmajors cant compete in DI. So stop it with this nonsense.

That is my Dayton team in IBA...thanks for the props milkamania.  The A-10 used to be the "it" conference in IBA.  Lostmyth, pottle, Weena, and a handful of others really built up the A-10 like 20 seasons ago.  Now, many of those coaches left IBA or jumped ship to other conferences, so the A-10 has started to fall a bit behind some of the Big 6 conferences, but I'm glad I was able to show that the A-10 isn't dead yet.

Congrats gjp. I guess I'm still crazy since I don't think recruit generation prevents mid majors from being contenders.

gjp18 has a great team... I used to play him in the non con, but he beat me so badly I had to stop.

You should have sent me a game request for next season bscoresby...I'll basically be fielding a team of all freshmen.  Let the beatdowns begin!

Youi know mmt, you are a great coach but as much as you chime in on this subject you should have really put your money where your mouth is.   You had a strong group of coaches in the Big West, but instead of staying there to try and win a NT you jumped to the Big 12 where you have absolutely dominated as a Big 6 powerhouse.

Your other DI team in Phelan?  LSU in the SEC.   Your constant attempts to pursuade everyone that the mid-majors can compete sound a little hollow when you yourself have chosen the riches of the Big 6 conferences.

Mully --- I dont wanna highjack this guys thread and take away from the accomplishment by rehashing the same argument weve all had 100 times before. So, I'll just address my resume and be done with it (if you wanna get back into it start another thread) I left CSU Fullerton at the time because I had never coached an elite and Kansas opened up and gave me that opportunity. Outside of winning a National Championship there, I think once I left they were pretty much at that level that is always discussed which supports my point about competing.

As for BYU, I think I definetaly had them in the right direction, I took them over as a D and had the school at a B- when I left. There are two schools Ive wanted to coach in HD, UNC (Which if they ever open in Naismith and Im qualified I'll take) and LSU. LSU was a tough one because they had been open for awhile and I didnt want to abandon BYU and the conference in part to demonstrate my point. It got to the point where I didnt want to bite my nose to spite my face and after several seasons of struggle I made the move. I dont think anyone would contend that I somehow upgraded in making the move and rather than continue at a team contending for the post season, I know have another rebuild on my hands.

If anything leaving BYU just furthered my point about the job hiring process. (But as I said not getting into it). I basically responded as I was a bit taken aback by your post.

Yes corn, you are maybe the third person outside  the chess community to recognize the handle. I played competitively from 76 to 04, but quit because of age, lack of quality competition here in the boondocks and cheaters using cpus online...
