One of my SP says "Unless you really surprise me with a great offer, I'm filing for free agency."

He was asking for 5.8 x 4 and I offered him 7.0 X 4 and he turned it down. Does anyone have experience with this message? Do I have any chance at landing him? I justed raised my offer up to 8.0 X 5, but I am not feeling good about it.

It may depend on the player but I recall offering $80 (16x5) million once and he rejected it. Eventually signed for a max contract in free agency.

I just had this happen in NABCL. I offered several contracts increasing in value every time until it was a very lucrative offer. He still didn't sign with me. But, surprisingly and frustratingly, he signed after the first day of the FA period with someone else.

I've signed guys like that before.   Add a season and make the total about 50% more than his asking total.     5x8 should do it.   You could probably try 5x7.
