2011 Player Report Topic

We've probably had enough time to see how the 2011 players how fared. Please feel free to post the good, the bad and the ugly.

I've had some nice performances from pitchers:

Justin Verlander - started slow, but has come on as of late. 131 IP so far with a .198 oav and 1.11 whip. Not a great deal at $9.2M.

Craig Kimbrel - although a bit pricey at $3.06M... I've used him 3 times... all with sub .200 oav and close to 8k/9. He does walk a few... 3bb/9, but is great in a pitcher's park. I think I've had 3 blown saves total in the 3 leagues I've used him.

Antonio Bastardo - how can you not use a guy with that name? High bb/9, but sub .200 oav and 1.1 whip in 3 leagues. Looks to be pretty solid in pitchers parks.

Hitters: Was hoping that Michael Young would do well for $5.6M. Used him twice and been disappointed so far. Hasn't been a doubles machine like I was hoping for... not even in a park like Kauffman or Hilltop.

Lance Berkman has been a nice find at $4.7M. Short on ab's but good power and OBP for that price.

I tried Victor Martinez twice and he really stunk it up. That's too bad... good doubles and batting avereage for $4.3m.

I'm, in a 2011 league looking at all the teams. Kershaw looks better than Verlander and Hamels looks better than Weaver. could there be an NL bias here? RPs too sooon to tell, Fister 70ip starter may be a good one.
Cabrerea not earning his high salary, Kemp looks just as good and Braun is close. Bautista doing ok. at the mid-range Berkman is hitting and VMart looks ok. I'm not seeing much from the infielders, a couple good Reyes years but not consistant.

Berkman is murdering the ball for me, and Beltre has been outstanding. Verlander started slow for me too, but has come around and is outpitching Kershaw even in a tough HR park. Justin Upton looks good. Prince Fielder and Dustin Pedroia have been putrid. Mike Stanton has only been so-so

Verlander is dominating in JFranco's favorite player league...it's a 120 cap with almost all the hitters lefthanded.  I am sold on him.

Whats Verlanders HR/9... I bet that is his weakness, the big HR guys.

I messed around with Cliff Lee in live play only so far and hes been pretty good.

I'm running Clayton Kershaw and Verlander in three open leagues, and Kershaw is consistently more successful.

I'm running Jose Bautista at third base in a 140M league, and although we're only 15 games in I've been pretty happy with him. Wouldn't be worth the cost in a lower cap league I don't think, but seems to be able to hold his own in higher cap.

I'm in that 2011 league too and from my perspective in the Kingdome; Tim Hudson is a good find, Halladay gives up a lot of hits but has been awesome lately, Cain is mediocre, Kershaw has been my ace but not completely dominant. My relievers aren't anything special but Casey Jannsen has been very good and Chapman has been great lately if you can stomach a lot of walks.  The biggest surprise for me has been Charlie Morton (if a 1.86 whip and .310 oav can be a surprise), he will give up hits but in a HR park in low cap league he can be great because he doesn't give up the long ball.

Hitters, Berkman is worth every penny for almost every owner including me, Fielder has been great, Sandoval very good, Uggla better than his real numbers, Braun pathetic (super bad), Granderson very bad, Hardy does what you think he would (great D, homers, no avg or obp), Upton and Montero are average. Brett Lawrie is streaky but I think worth the money. Jim Thome is hitting .400 but only has 29 PA's.
