How do you put this setting?  Does it depend on the opponent?  Losing Only, Anytime?

I usually go anytime, but I think coaches are pretty divided on this.

The only time I go anytime or even if losing is when I'm not sure of the call I made. If I know I want to go negative on a team because they have no perimeter shooting I don't think I'd want the engine to change it. I basically take it on a game by game basis. It depends on the opponent for me.

My fear is how sound the engine's logic in adjusting is.  For example, if their post men get into foul trouble in the first half, and then it adjusts to more of a + defense because of the distro in the first half?

not sure I'm following you here. Could you explain this a little better for me?

I don't mind the idea of adjusting, but let's say the team I'm playing has 4 quick fouls on their high distro big men.  They sit the whole first half, and the other team shoots 90% of their shots from the outside.  Is the auto-adjust going to make my defense more of a + defense because of the stats, or would it realize that the other team's bigs will be back in the second half.

I think the engine only adjusts based on where the opponent is scoring. I don't think opponent foul trouble plays a role in deciding where to set the D. When I look at sim PBP they always start at 0 and depending on where they are being attacked they will go + or - 1 or 2. It would be nice if the engine took into account the whole picture but in your example the engine would definitely go + in the second half.

This may have changed, but in the past, the halftime adjustment was not allowed to go more than two spots from where you had initially set it.  So, in your scenario, say you went -4 to combat the two inside players.  Even if 90% of the first half shots came from the perimeter, the engine would only adjust to -2 at the most.  Yes, it wouldn't quite be the sagging, inside D you had originally set, but it would still be somewhat focused on defending the interior.  Again, this may have been changed when the engine was tweaked, but I still believe these parameters to be true.

This is still true.
