The biggest change I've seen is the number of people that play. Lot less than there used to be. The SIM is actually better ironically.

You can win in Safeco because you need less PA and IP.   It's like having a 6% advantage.

I remember the days when OBP and secondary defense were undervalued ... I miss you 1993 Tony Phillips!

Superman relief pitching strategy
The Milacki strategy
1894 pitchers strategy
Various fatigue strategies
Normalization
Super rangers
Deadball pitchers
Stolen Bases being undervalued
The 0 CS thing - I used to love using Tommy Tucker
Hitting pitchers

There have been tons of strategies over the years.  One loophole closes and people generally find another to exploit.  I do think the sim has made huge improvements over the years though. There are not too many loopholes that completely alter the game anymore.

Are there currently any loopholes that completely alter the game?

It's easy to see why there are fewer players these days. There hasn't even been a game good enough to be the Game Of The Week since August.

Seriously, this forum was 10X more active 5 years ago.

I have played since 2008.  The major changes I have seen center around pitching.  When I started 2006-2007 pitchers were all mispriced low.  When that bug was fixed, the best pitching bargains became the good-hitters like Caruthers and Ruth.  As of October 2010 that was fixed and people are using dead ball bagains like Joss, Steele and Nehf.

The other big change I have seen is defense.  The sim has gotten better at pricing guys like '92 Daly and '93 Phillips who were out-of-position bargains before.  Normalized fielding has made old-time fielders much more useful.

I've actually been here since 2002.  I only get to play 2 or 3 team a year because of my busy job, but I always have fun doing it so I have stayed.  The biggest thing to me that has changed is the pricing.  They have fixed it a ton since the beginning.  Can you believe 2002 Mike Hampton and his 179IP used to be $200K?
