A recruiting sequence I don't understand Topic

Here's the situation: another team has one scholarship and $40K, and is being considered by a player.  On one cycle I put $X into him -- large enough to make me extremely competitive, probably winning if the other guy's not already all in.  The scholarship message I get is "It would be a dream to play for you at Alabama, I don't know why they make me wait to sign, but I guess that's what I have to do."  Sounds like he's signing with me, right?  Thing is, the home visit message directly before this was "Coach, you have a good program at Alabama.  I still don't know if it's right for me, but I have an open mind."  And the visit before that, he refused.  So: Am I not winning?  Did I misinterpret that scholarship email?  Since getting it, I haven't put in any more money, nor has the other guy -- which makes me wonder if he thinks he's winning.  I've been screwed by not understanding scholarship emails in the past.  Thoughts?

you are winning.  Only the scholly email matters.

True.  But do recruits ever decline a visit from a school they're considering?  If I'm out-and-out winning the battle, then I didn't go from losing to winning with one HV.  Which means I had to be at least neck-and-neck with another school when he declined my visit.  That doesn't seem right, does it?

I've seen kids that I sign refuse a random visit in the middle of a lot of other effort sometimes. Don't read too much into it. Scholie email is the only one that matters for this, and it seems you are winning. Watch for a last second push from the other guy, but right now its you...

I think you're winning, but I'd put in a little more effort just to be sure... at least a phone call a cycle to make sure you get consistent winning messages.

Yup -- 3 more HV's, and he signed at the 8 AM cycle (though the scholarship message never changed, so everyone was right, except me :) ).  Thanks, guys!

this cycle makes sense. when you give visits and stuff, it takes into account your standing at the start of the cycle. you started not being considered. so even as he takes home visits, you think he likes you more - but that is only true if they are spread across cycles. in HD, the way it works is, you give him 20 home visits, he doesn't like you any more, then you give the 21st, and the cycle ends - and now he likes u 21 home visits worth all at once.
