Guaranteed start question Topic

I guaranteed a start to a recruit in order to sign him with only $110. I plan to start the guy every game but am hoping to only play him about ten minutes a game. My question is, if I make good on my promise to start him but only give him 10 mins, will he complain?

thanks!

No, unless you promised minutes, he doesn't care about minutes, just the starts.

You cant.  Unless he gets into foul trouble he will play a minimum of 15 mins.

Unless you use target minutes for substitutions instead of fatigue.

No it doesn't matter.   You can set him to 4-8 mins but a starter will not play less than 15.

That's to keep people from jacking around with promised starts when they really don't mean them (like here).

That's simply not the way it works currently. If you use target minutes, you can have a starter play less than 15 minutes if your other minutes are properly accounted for.

Mark Antonelli
can vouch for that, since against both Greensboro and St. Scholastica he started and played only 9 minutes (I generally do not allocate the full 200 on the low end, so starters pick up extra slack). In the two games combined, he committed only one foul, so it's not like he lost minutes to foul trouble.

I keep thinking I want to try target minutes for the heck of it, but never pull the trigger.

I guess Im wrong.  I havent used target minutes in forever but I thought that was the way it used to be.

A start is a start right - I mean ask Rakeem Christmas (or Fab Melo last year)

It is tough to keep starters minutes down using fatigue. I wish there was some way of subbing by minutes and sub by fatigue.
