Why is it that Torcato gets the fireman award ahead of Lopez?  Lopez sported a lower whip & oav, had more saves, and pitched 35 more innings.  I guess he's being punished for being a 2 inning closer, because it seems like the criteria is heavily weighted for sv %, as Lopez blew 8 saves, while Torcato only blew 2.  Torcato also had a slightly lower era.

Informal poll:  who do you think should have won it?

Definitely Torcato.

I believe the Fireman is strictly math, based on wins, losses, saves and blown saves. Pretty sure stuff like OAV and WHIP has no factor.

Correct.

FYI this is also how they calculate the Fireman award in real life, so if you have a problem you need to take it up with MLB.

Assuming they are using the actual formula, Lopez had 134 points, Torcato 139, without accounting for any "tough save" (coming in with the tying run already on base) bonus points, which I'm not taking the time to look up.

Thanks for that, Al.  I was unaware of the formula for FOY.  At least it was close.
