I haven't played zone for some time, but what I would do if I were you is click around looking for top teams in your worlds that are playing zone and analyze what they're doing. It seems to me that speed can really shut down the 3 pt percentage of your opponents. Also, shot blockers are more effective when they play zone. But I personally think you need to recruit for Athleticism and Speed no matter what D your playing.
The thing that makes zone attractive to me is that you can play your best players many more minutes than, say, a press team can play theirs -- and even more than a M2M team can. Also, because your players play so many minutes, it's easier to redshirt a player -- or, more importantly -- take walk-ons. It's so rare that the 11th and 12th men in a zone rotation get any significant minutes, you don't really need them. So, one real advantage of playing zone is, for instance, if you've got 4 schollies open, you can take that 12K and use it to recruit just two players. That extra 6K at D3 can be a big deal.
