Need 4 for 1971/72 &72/73 leag.-Erving, Gilmore & Topic

We have 4 openings for a  double season progressive that started with the 1967/68 & 1968/69 seasons, the first two years of the ABA. This is the era of Wilt, Abdul-Jabbar, Hayes, Baylor, Robertson, Dave Bing, Earl Monroe etc.

We had only one owner leave the league after season 1 and a second owner is leaving after season 2. We had 18 different owners for season 1 as 6 owners took 2 teams each. 17 of these owners returned for season 2 and we added 2 new owners. The only owner not returning for season 2 was scottyboy4, who had 2 teams and has disappeared from many Sim League Baseball and Basketball leagues. In season 2 there were 5 owners, including myself, who retained both their teams (owners with 2 teams are not permitted to make trades between their 2 teams). 18 of the  19 owners are returning for season 3 but all 5 owners with 2 teams have elected to make one of their 2 teams available for season 3. Two of the six available teams have already been taken by new owners who asked for reservations for season 3 after the beginning of season 2, leaving 4 available teams. The available teams are shown below.

The first two seasons have been very successful and enjoyable. There are 2 days left in the second season and we will then be able to set the draft order and draft for season 3  The draft for season 3 will not start until January 9,2012. The double season format assures rapid turnover of player (a player with a 10 year career will only have 5 seasons in this league), so that teams with losing records should be able to improve rapidly. This third season's rookies include Artis Gilmore, Julius Erving, George Gervin, Bob McAdoo, George McGinnis, and Randy Smith among others. There will be a 5 round draft for available players (about 90-95% of whom are rookies). There will also be an add/drop round following the draft. As noted below, there will be plenty of minutes available.

Owners expressing interest will be given temporary access to our private forum, which contains full league rules, where a list of available players for the third season will be posted as soon as all keepers are posted, and which is where the draft will be held.

This third season you will be able to select which of 2 seasons you want to use for each of your players (assuming they are active both seasons). This season (3) you may use 1971/72 or 1972/73, the following season (4) 1973/74 or 1974/75 etc.

One concern expressed prior to the start of our first season was whether there would be sufficient minutes available. That proved to be a non-issue. A minimum of 19,680 minutes are required and teams averaged around 23,000 minutes. My 2 teams in season 1 had 29,000 + and 27,000 + minutes.

Rather than managing teams with recent players this is an opportunity to manage teams from an older era.

No rookies, no WW. Trades of players OK and draft picks current season only.

Drafts subsequent to the initial draft will be in inverse order of regular season record, with the tiebreaker being total point differential (points scored less points allowed) with the team with the worse point differential drafting earlier. However, as an anti-tanking provision for the 1st round only there will be a weighted lottery among the 4 teams with the worst record for the first 4 draft positions. The same tiebreaker will be used for these positions.

Since this is a progressive league I do request that you not sign up unless you expect to be able to particpate for at least 5 seasons.

If interested please sign up below and you will be given access to the private forum. You will need to post a keeper list for season 3 as soon as possible after you have reviewed your selected team's roster and decided which players to keep. If desiring further information indicate below and you will be given temporary access to the private forum.

Therefore the players shown below are the former Maverick players and the records cited are the Mavericks records for seasons 1 & 2. The Mavericks are currently 23-40 5th in the Midwest Division and were 41-41 4th in the Midwest Division in season 1.

so the draft covers two seasons or one?
12/16/2011 11:17 AM
The draft covers 2 season. For all previous players as well as the 2 seasons of rookies owners have the choice of either 71/72 or 72/73, assuming the player was active in both. If he was active in only one, that one must be used.

Chicago Bulls (Central Division). Current record 8-69 last in the Division. Season 1 record was 48-34 3rd in the Division. The Bulls will be in a 4 team weighted lottery with a 40% chance for the #1 pick in the first round and will draft first in all other rounds in the season 3 draft. The Bulls will be able to get Gilmore, Erving, Gervin, McAdoo or McGinnis in the first round.
