Copying another owners team. Topic

I am sure there has been previous forums on this topic but I am relatively new at WIS and am curious what is the protocal?  Seems to me that there is little sense of accomlishment when you piggyback on someone else's efforts.  Any comments?

It's somewhat frowned upon but unavoidable.  It boils down to the fact that you're spending your money, so do what you want with it.

Sounds good to me.  Thanks for input ashamael.

To Tadmand, In my 1st league you dominated and went 72-10, beat Lebron clone team in finals.  I'm now in my 4th league and I'm up against someone with a suspicious resemblance to your team. Jerry West 72-73,  Gerald Wallace 05-06, Nate Mcmillan 93-94, Wilt Chamberlain 64-65,  Hakeem Olajuwon 90-91, Andrei Kirilenko 09-10,  Harvey Catchings 74-75, Jerry Reynolds 74-75, Alonzo Mourning 04-05, Scott Brooks 96-97, Rajon Rondo 10-11, Dennis Rodman 94-95.  I doubt he carbon copied your team but it seems to definitely be the basis.  What stood out to me as a red flag is how Jerry West is of a different era and  wouldn't necessarily fit the mold, also he has 2 teams with this construction in which he wins with and all his other sim basketball teams stink.  I wish there was something someone could do about these things because it makes me not want to do this anymore.

join theme leagues that have player exclusivity as a feature

I am doing my first Open League in like 5 years.  Using a completely original team but I am curious to see a) how many of those players occur on other teams and b) how much I get my *** handed to me by cookie cutter teams.
4/8/2012 6:07 PM
i've used this team twice in open leagues to combat the cookie cutter teams. 1 ring, 1 conference final (lost).

the core: 2200 min vince carter - 74 def danny granger - 06-07 carlos boozer - any version of a cheap kidd (9ppg), and c... 89 def mutombo (2500 mins). leaves 9 mil for reserves. u'll also need the 1400 min j.r. smith... 6.7 mil left.

Partial season players are so cliche'

...and effective.

I've really enjoyed my Wilt-Worm-Kidd + either Jordan or Barkley teams lately.  Gonna go hardcore cookie and make a Lebron one soon.
4/8/2012 7:28 PM
Thanks for the heads up fiioe....The Old Bear is not the first owner to copy my team. However, he is a HF (in something other than BB) and should know better.  I am a little surprised that none of the old timers in your leagues said anything to him and also surprised he did it twice.  That team and versions of it were very good so it is not fair to other owners in his leagues for him to copy and use it in competition.  Feel free to mention that his team looks familiar to Tadman's....might embarass him.
Bye the way, I am out of open leagues now.  Just playing themes.
Thanks again,  Tom

Especially effective since they are cheaper than they should be. An added bonus- they are more fun to put together.

Like I said, I haven't played an Open League team in 5 years (the double Manute Bol era) but I just submitted the team below.  I only know what I know from Theme Leagues and Progressives, but I think it should have some legs.

I went through, having looked at the threads, and created another OL team that is straight cookie cutter so I could compare their performance (knowing that it will be a small sample size).  I am very curious to see the performance compared to one another.  Already, I see that in my attempt to create a perfect team without the awareness of what is a cookie that both 08-09 Rondo and 10-11 Love may be cookies, which is interesting.

The ability to build a flawed minutes team with the ability to rely on rookies is pretty interesting.  Not sure if this was a valid strategy 4-5 years ago when I last played open leagues,
4/10/2012 11:36 PM
"cookies" (this is such a wrong term but for what you're talking about):

'67 Wilt
1700 minute Wilt + 95-96 (or 96-97) Shaq
'93 Rodman
'98 Rodman... actually, any Rodman not 91-92 or 93-94
'10 Kidd
'09 Kidd
'97 Jordan
'91 Barkley
'95 Drexler (1300 minute version) + either 2400 minute Granger, 2200 minute Vinsanity, or the Ginobili seasons around 2200 minutes
'02 Jesus Shuttlesworth

There's more but those seem to be the most common.

Since I was the target of all this I thought I would respond. The second team has been changed.  Just for future reference if you all have an issue with me a sitemail is all I need to fix issues. This is not my life and would not have even noticed this had I not got a sitemail from tadmand today. Some things have been mentioned in one of the leagues but I missed the first message and just now looked at the messages in the second. Hope this helps you all out. One of the reasons I quit playing the baseball game was all the duplicate teams so I totally understand.
