My first open league. Topic

I just want to say I am playing in my first open league and I really think this looks like a really neat game. I like how detailed box scores and the play by play is. I was kind of nervous after my first draft about wether or not I had made some good picks, especially with there being a $80 million salary cap.

One question I do have. Exactly what times in the day are games played?

"The games are simmed at various times based on the number of games scheduled for that time period. Any managerial decisions (lineup changes, reliever role changes, etc.) must be made by 11:59pm EST for overnight games, by 11:59am EST for afternoon games and by 4:59pm EST for evening games. Having your decisions made by that time ensures that your requested changes are used for the following game"

Remember that this rule ensures that you get your lineup in. It took me 9 seasons to figure out that the lineup can be submitted up until sim time.

Games begin at roughly 1:10AM, 1:20PM, and 6PM (all times Eastern Time).

It takes about 10 minutes for WIS to play all of the games scheduled across all of the active leagues in any cycle, and they play the games in order by league #.  So in a brand new OL, you should expect the games to SIM about 10 minutes after the start times listed above.  As the season progresses (and older leagues finish up) your start times will move back toward the beginning of the 3 time periods.

Thanks everyone. I just wanted to get a good idea of when games occur for any future changes I might make, right now my league is only 2 games into the season so I'm just sitting back and watching/noting what is working and what might need to be changed in the future.

I really don't have very many big names on my team like Babe Ruth or anyone, mostly thanks to being limited with the salary cap,so my hope will be that I stay as competitive as I can in my first season.

It looks like you drafted too many innings pitched.  You get 110% of their real life IP's.  An example would be your 2010 Ubaldo Jimenez.  He pitched 222 innings in real life, so here on the site he can pitch 222*110% = 243 IP.  With that in mind, working backwards you only need 162 * 9 = 1458 IP / 110% = 1325 IP.  To be on the safe side, 1350 IP should be the most you would need.

On your team, you drafted 1538 IP.  That is around 188 too many IP.  Your 1992 John Burkett has 190 IP.  You could have fielded a pitching staff without him and would have been in ok shape IP wise.  That is $4M you could of spent on your offensive.

Anyways, good luck on your first team.  I'm not trying to critique your team, just trying to point out how some of the technical stuff works so you can be on the same level as the rest of us.  You will learn there is a ton of stuff that you find out about WiS.

Thanks. Is that necessarily bad that I drafted too many IP? Does it affect my pitchers performance? As far as my offense goes in 2 out of 3 games they have shown me decent production, spitting out 6 runs in a win and then 15 in the game that just got played tonight.

It's not bad, just not effiecient.   It's a good idea to get less PA and IP if they are a higher quality.

ok thanks. Like I said this game is really cool and I hope I will be able to learn more and get even better at it.

Please don't get discouraged with your first team.  Read the forums and ask questions if you don't understand something.

Thanks. I'm not totally discouraged at all. My first team is only 5-6 currently so there are some positives in there. I am real impressed by how detailed the game is and how well done it is,and I look forward to learning more.

Also, don't get another team until this one is finished. You'll be glad. There's plenty to learn all through a season even if you think you've found some flaws, there's always more flaws waiting to be found.
