(Rebounding) MATH IS HARD!!! Topic

Does anybody have a good way of looking at team rebounding percentages  based on field goals attempted and figuring out a good way to account for free throw discrepancies and possibly blocks as well?  (I say possibly blocks because I don't know what happens after a block; I assume it is treated like a regular missed shot and therefore doesn't matter but if that isn't the case it probably does.)

My team had one of the better foul differences this past season and it impacted FGA's and FTA's quite a bit and in turn rebounds.  To go ahead and use my  my team as an example:

I "out-rebounded" my opposition by 6.9 boards a game.

My team took 1762 shots and the opposition took 2006.  That's an extra 7.4 shots per game.  My team shot a better field goal percentage so if you at the number of misses per game, my opposition missed 10.5 shots more per game than I did.  For the season, I "lost" the battle for offensive boards 413 to 388.  However, given the amount of extra attempts I know I was better at offensive rebounds than my opponents.  I'm just not sure how much.

My team went to the foul line a lot more, 1149 FTA compared to 648.  When you look at missed free throws, my team was missing 9.6 free throws per game and the opposition missed 6.1.  Missed free throws are rebounded by the defensive team 85% of the time??? (That's a guess but I think it is probably close to accurate.)  But some of the missed freethrows would have been the first shot of a two shot foul and therefore had no rebound at all.  I would like to tease out these rebounds from rebounds that came from missed field goals but I'm not sure exactly how to do it.

I could go on but this post is already getting lengthy.  Based on raw numbers I out-rebounded by opponents but they were missing a lot more shots than I was.  I should be out-rebounding my opponent when that is the case.  So I'm trying to figure out if that 6.9 number is good, bad, or just average but really can't figure out a way to make that determination.

I'm guessing this post might go unanswered but figured it wouldn't hurt to ask for some help.

I just compare my % of offensive rebounds versus my opponent's and my % of defensive rebounds versus my opponents.

All the data is in each box score but you have to add them up.   The kicker (as you mentioned) is missed FTs which tend to skew towards the defensive rebounding team more than regular misses.
