Pitcher's parks - Update!!! Topic

I don't have much experience in a heavy pitcher's park.   I just took a team and put them in Memphis(-2,-2,-3,-2,-2).

I have a 25th spot open.   I'm debating between a low dur/stm pitcher(12/53) or another bat.   I have a 12 man staff.  Dur/stm as follows:

Because I've got a couple of those 50-70 innings guys in the pen, do I need another pitcher(assuming my guys are of average quality in an average world)?

If it matters(and it does), I've got a pretty solid D.

And the bat is nothing but a PH/3rd C on a NL team.   Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Gookie Munro    But it looks like he should smoke RH pitching.   As an added bonus, the first 4 letters of his first name are asterisked out in chat.

I think you'll be ok.

Yeah, now that's I've put in on writing, those 30+ DUR SP will eat a lot of innings.

I don't think you ever need more than 12 pitchers.  I generally have 11, and almost all of my seasons are in pitcher's parks (Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and Wichita).  If you see your staff starting to get gassed, just promote a 12th (or in your case, 13th) pitcher until all is normal again.

I usually carry 12 because I don't see the need for 14 position players.   Because of that, I short my DUR/STM combo but I generally won't carry 2 low IP RP like I have on this team.  That's my concern.

you'll be perfectly fine.

I looked at my Seattle team and its history and used that as a basis.

You almost could run out a 4 man rotation and the rest could easily be covered by the pen.  Assuming somewhere in the range of 1450-1500 innings needed for the season, you can get 220 out of the 4 starters (880 total), 130+ out of the 83/25 guy (1010 total), 100 each out of the 65/25 guys (1210 total) 60 from the 40/20-30 guys (1330 total) and the remainder from the rest.  I only counted 9 of your guys there and totally ignored the 3 other starter/long reliever guys.

Long story short, you have more arms then you will need.  That's relying heavily on your bullpen, but I have found that bullpen arms are generally a lot cheaper per inning pitched than starters.  Although, if you have 5 really good starters, I would lean on them more.

I'd rather have more defensive replacement/Pinch Hitter/rest replacements than an extra Setup B or LR B, that a 12th or 13th pitcher will almost inevitably be.

I carry 12 guys for a similar reason...I never need that many position players.  Usually my bottom two RP get about 10-20 innings throughout the season...so they pretty much are pointless.

Go with 14/11 or 15/10, especially since you know what you are doing with the offensive side.

If you can flip one of the 30/somethings for a half decent 70/35 or higher, you can go 15/10, and set your manager's console to substitute as often as possible, and take advantage of pinch running/defensive/big bat needed situations.

In the player settings, remove the checkmarks from the position players that you don't want substituted.

Back in the 3 man tandem days, I'd carry 9-10 pitchers.   But I'd have 3 position players that finished the season with less than 100 AB.    That's why I think 13 PP is plenty.

Yea, but now you're going to have 2-3 pitchers that sit at set up B with 20 innings. Same deal on the other side. I'd rather let simmy subs like crazy on the position player side.

Cesar Crespo is what 76/46 will do for you in a pitcher's park.

And he'll be available 2 out of 3 or 3 out of 4 days, unlike a 30/whatever.

Do it!!!

the thing is that overpaying for at-bats is a lot easier than innings.  Position players rarely come along with a durability that would limit them to 100 AB's a season.  Almost every position player out there can get 400 to 500 at-bats a season and if they are decent you'll have to pay for that.  Whereas a good short inning RP is priced a lot closer to how many innings you are going to utilize them.  A good bench of 3 guys getting less than 100 AB's usually is more expensive than the bottom 3 RP in a good bullpen.
