When can I take away a player's scholarship?

What will the negative effect on my reputation be?

When can I take away a player's scholarship? The window is from the end of the job change period to the cycle just prior signing.

What will the negative effect on my reputation be? If you are cutting a player you did not sign then the penalty is basically non-existant. Everything is factored by decimal points behind the scenes and unless you happen to be a tick above a breakpoint you won't even notice it.

Will I get the recruiting money for the newly-opened slot? If you fill the spot you will not get any additional cash. If you take a walk-on, you will get the cash the following season.

Also for your team you need to recruit better  athletes especially at PF and C for example Metzger is a lot better than Swenson although Swenson is 40 points higher because Metzger is a much better athlete.

Also be aware that if you cut a player there is a small risk that another player on your roster will become upset and quit your team. It doesn't happen very often, but it is a potential consequence you should know about.

This happened to me once. There is a slight chance, but only when you cut a human recruited player.

You can only cut one inherited player before your reputation takes a hit. This has happened to me at at least two different schools now. Not a big deal unless you want to change schools right away.

It happened to me when cutting a CPU player, and then I lost a senior projected starter.  This was the first season I took over at a school.
