How to stop this guy from attempting to steal? Topic

I'd like to keep <a style="color:black;" href="http://www.whatifsports.com/hbd/Pages/Popups/PlayerProfile.aspx?pid=1726735" target="_blank">Ivan Blanco</a> from attempting to steal so much.He has SPD 88, but BR only 56. This year he is 12 of 25. I have my Base Stealing set to average. I know I can set it to Infrequent and that would probably cut down on his attempts. Problem is, I have a few other guys who I would like to keep running, but the also have somehat low BR ratings. <a style="color:black;" href="http://www.whatifsports.com/hbd/Pages/Popups/PlayerProfile.aspx?pid=3702013" target="_blank">Felipe James</a>(SPD 96, BR 68,  14 of 20), <a style="color:black;" href="http://www.whatifsports.com/hbd/Pages/Popups/PlayerProfile.aspx?pid=2992318" target="_blank">Takuya Irabu</a>(95 SPD, 66 BR, 16 of 18), and <a style="color:black;" href="http://www.whatifsports.com/hbd/Pages/Popups/PlayerProfile.aspx?pid=2992261" target="_blank">Bernie Pichardo</a>(91 SPD, 59 BR, 16 of 21).

So, if I set it to Infrequent, will that stop all these guys from attempting to steal? Or just guys with under 60 BR? Is there a general feeling as to where the BR rating cutoff is between the BS AVG and INFR settings as far as attepted steals goes? Really wish there was an individual settng for this in Player Settings.

I totally concur.  I have the same problem on my team, and just went to infrequent because i couldn't deal with how many outs they were making.

It's WifS way of keeping the averages about right.  I don't look at individuals, but my team totals, then adjust if necessary.  But individual baserunning settings would be an issue without a tweak of the basestealing engine, which is unlikely.

It would be more than a tweak.  The 85 for 88 guys would have to be 70 for 88.   And then people would stop running as much.   Because that's what they're getting now except it's spread out between 3-4 players.

This comes up every once in a while, and the explanation given for the staus quo is questionable and the justifications given for the staus quo are laughable.

The explanation is that it would require too much processing/memory power because each team has 6 levels of individual settings. Perhaps an issue, but given the hundreds of SimLeague teams (all with individual settings) running successfully, I think the investment in whatever additional hardware *might* be required would be worth it from a game play perspective. Perhaps not from a business perspective (though it gets cheaper each day), but I don't have access to the books.

The "averages are in line, so it's fine" justification is horse ****, and if anyone applied it to some other aspect of the games, the loud forum voices would drown them down. "The team as a whole averages about the right number of home runs, so who cares if my 100 power guy is hitting 100 a season and the 50 power guy is hitting 5. The averages are fine."

That's kind of a false analogy, until they give us a "Try to hit a homer" setting... 1-5.

Yeah, both of those posts have been seen before.    I wouldn't mind individual settings if they revamped the entire basestealing program where the best of the best are only successful 4 out of 5 times.    But, as I've mentioned before, all the people who envision stealing 600 bases with 4 guys going 150 for 155 will stop stealing as much because their guys are getting caught 31 times a season.

Is it worth investing the time and manpower to get right back to the same place?    I won't build another doghouse when the one I've got works just fine.

It's an argument about what makes it "right".

You can have a perfectly nice forest made up of many POS trees.

Some people are dissatisfied with the POS trees, no matter how nice the forest looks as an entity.

It's called "Have your cake and eat it too"(which makes no sense but whatever).     Everyone likes the guy who's successful 88 out of 92 times and would like to send him more.  Except, when they do, 5 other guys go 1 for 12.    Then it's not worth it.

If you eat your cake, you don't have it anymore.

And, yes.  You never hear complaints about the guys who steal unrealistic amounts.  Just the ones who get caught all kinds.

Ortiz doesn't go 0 for 8, but Ellsbury doesn't go 123/126, either.

We're having a debate about Chris Jordan making the HoF or not in Yaz.  The guy has an insane (99%) SBO/SBA rate, which I attribute to poor programming.  Should a guy make the HoF based on what amounts to a glitch?  I'm all for getting individual base stealing settings in there, so that a guy like Jordan's numbers won't look so ridiculous.  Look at his season 7 - insane.

One trick pony.  Can't see why he should be in the HOF with 3 SS and 2 AS appearances.
1/9/2012 6:37 PM
Righto.  That's what I've been saying.

I'll see your glitch and raise you one.

Yuniesky Posada

Dude broke 100 SBs for 10 straight seasons, had 5 seasons of 168 or more, had a career total of 1674 SBs, and was caught only 53 times.

He had 268 more career SBs than Rickey Henderson, and was caught 282 fewer times.

That's inhuman
