When you get a game request from a coach you are maybe unfamiliar with and the other team is losing a number of seniors and the coach is in his first or second season at the school and doesn't have much history do you decline the request or just let in linger until you fill the spot with another school (pocket veto)? Is there a concern about hurting someone's feeling with the denial? If so, is the honesty and rapid response better than having the other coach wait and maybe not find other opponents he's happy with? Is this not really an issue and just something the other voices in my head are arguing about? Will Dave find love with Rachel? With Bobbi-Jo come home for the holidays? Who stole Mrs. Foster's old shoes? Questions...

i dont usually even look at my non-con requests until midway through the season and usually by then i often have several for the same game so i just pick the best fit

don't think it's anything that anyone's feelings should be hurt over.  did someone gripe at you for not accepting?

If there's no chance I'll accept, I just decline right away.

I'm really bad about this. I'm a habitual pocket vetoer, not just with unfamiliar coaches, but pretty much across the board with almost any request I get. Not trying to be a jerk about it, but I tend to be a late scheduler (for a variety of reasons, some intentional, some unintentional), and usually just don't pay any attention to (or even notice) schedule requests until I get around to doing my schedule (usually right around conference tournament time). So I'm sure I've ****** a lot of people off by doing this. As such, it doesn't bother me in the least if I make a schedule request, and never get any response.

It really ****** me off when the person I request doesn't accept or decline right away, my feelings wouldn't get hurt I just want to know so I can schedule someone who will accept.  If you're not going to accept it just reject it.

there's no reason to get all worked up about it... i often forget about requests, or want to see how your team is developing/how you coach before I accept or deny them. Usually I have 2-4 every-season rivalry games that get scheduled early, then don't look much at all until the end of the year. Not everyone has the same timeframe (or even pays enough attention) for scheduling.

If someone hasn't taken your offer, and you want "X" quality game, go find someone else...

When I don't accept or reject right away its usually one of two things:  Either - I would LIKE the game, but I'm waiting for an answer from someone else - or I failed to notice the request.

It's just frustrating when you're tied up waiting for someone and then end up not getting a quality opponent because all the other quality teams schedules' are filled.

You could always shotgun requests and request multiple people for the same slot

And if I really want a particular person on my schedule, I'll often request a game in multiple slots, just in case the one I picked might conflict with something else to give them a choice.

Yeah.  They can only ACCEPT one, but if someone had all ten slots open, you COULD request to play them in every slot - they could only ACCEPT one and then the others would go away, but. . .

I usually just assume that if I don't get a response in 24-48 hours, I'm not going to get a quick answer and start looking for other options. I for one often don't like to accept requests early in the season, unless I'm familiar with the coach, because I don't know how they are going to set up their schedule, and want to wait and see what they do. I like to schedule teams that are going to win a lot of games, and don't want to get stuck with someone who schedules too many (IMO) tough opponents to get a nice quantity of wins.
