In game position switches by manager Topic

Okay, so it tied in the bottom of the 9th.  My pinch hitter with very poor fielding comes in for my second baseman and ties the game.  Now we go to the 10th, and my poor fielding pinch hitter is playing second base, and gives up a game losing error.  It would be nice if the game was smart enough to move him to LF and move my good fielding LFer to 2b.  What's the point of hiring a manager when they don't do anything anyway....

So, you are asking for clarvoyance, basically

Dumb comment as usual.  Its not that complicated.     If a pinch hitter goes in for someone playing a position for which the pinch hitter has not been given that position assignment, make the fielding adjustment to someone who does.

In the above scenario, my pinch hitter has been assigned LF as one of his positions.  Likewise, my starting left fielder has 2nd baseman as one of his backup positions.  So, when they take the field they should trade positions to those which they have been assigned.

So yea, clarvoyance.

So, I imagine you work for a large corporation.

You sit at the executive table, and say "hey guys! I have a great idea! Let's make money!...What do you mean how, you go out, and make money, then make some more, then after you make some more you invest it!
Now do it!"

Hey!  You can't talk to spaceboy that way!

It try this again in simple terms so you can understand it.

On the bench, is player A.  He has 1b as his primary position, and has been assigned LF as a secondary (backup) position.

Starting is LF is player B.  He has LF as his primary position, and has been assigned 2b as a secondary (backup) position.

Starting at 2b is player C.  He has 2b as his only assigned position.

During the game, player A comes in to pinch hit for player C.  When they then take the field, the engine would notice that player A does not have 2b as a listed position, and does notice that he does have LF as a listed position.  The engine likewise notes that the current LFer (Player B) has 2b as a listed position.  SOOOOOO, instead of leaving player C at 2b (which he does not have listed as an eligibe position), the engine would move player B to 2b and player A to LF.

There is not clairvoyance involved, its simply following a train of logic, which, guess what, computers can do.

Hey tecwrg, you won that WS yet?  I mean, WOW, 61 seasons and no success yet?   Keep trying little buddy, I'm sure you can do it eventually, just keep trying.

And jumping into a suggestion discussion and calling me spaceboy is very mature.

Now if you don't have anything to actually add to the discussion, go home and get your shinebox.

I actually think that he's making a decent suggestion.  No reason why the simmy manager can't look at the def ratings of the players who are currently in, and if the current LF has better 2b ratings than the guy who was subbed in, and he has 2b as a secondary position, why shouldn't simmy decide to put the LF at 2b and the subbed in guy at LF?  There doesn't need to be clairvoyance for simmy to do this.  This sort of thing happens almost every game in RL MLB.

No, it doesn't.   But, if you've ever hit recs to figure out where a guy can play, you'll find that they're waaay off on what most people find acceptable.   Do you really want a program like that doing position swaps?    Trust me, I don't like seeing Simmy PH for my LF with my 3rd C then leave him in LF.   I'd much rather the 3C move to 1B and my slug-like 1B play LF but I fear my 3B would move to 2B, my 2B to SS and my SS to C in the process.   No thanks.

Who said anything about letting simmy use recs? It would only use positions you have manually assigned. So you have your SS assigned as a backup C? I doubt it.
