Looking for an owner to take over the Boston Red Sox in the Original Franchise Progressive League.
League Overview
16 team league that began in 1969 using the original 16 MLB franchises. We didn't keep any real life players from '69, just used the team name and ballpark. Being a 16 team league during the early years of the Expansion Era provides a little more depth and quality to the roster and each draft making it unique among progressives covering this time frame.
League format: 16 teams/4 divisions/4 teams in playoffs (balanced schedule but no interleague play)
At some point down the road, we may consider a one time league expansion to up to 24 teams but not sure if/when/how that would take place.....probably during the 90's. It would take a majority vote to approve such a change.
No to AAA, ww and DH. No salary cap and no rules on minimum/maximum keepers from season to season.
Yes to trades (6 vetoes), yes to injuries and to the transaction deadline.
Players who drop out for 1+ seasons may be placed on the DL until they return to the sim. No restrictions on how many can be placed on the DL at any one time.
If your franchise changes ballparks, you are required to change as well.
Team Overview
Boston Red Sox (current owner ronblood)
102-60 during 1971 season (playoffs start Feb 1st)
If protected everybody: 25 keepers with $94.8 million in salary (a couple thousand extra PA's but about right on IP's)
1st round draft pick was traded away (would have drafted last anyway). Also have the Cardinals #3 pick which comes early in the round.
Actual roster is posted below but some of the key players are:
- OF Billy Williams $6.7M
- 1B John Mayberry $5.7M (lotta upside left)
- 2nd yr OF Jeff Burroughs (tons of future value)
- P Catfish Hunter $11.1M (lotta upside left)
- P Bert Blyleven $7.8M (lotta upside left)
Bottom line, this team is poised to win now and has several players with value into the late 70's. Because we are a 16 team league building rosters from a player pool of 24 real life teams, each team is a little better off than a typical progressive team but this is still one of the top 3 teams going into next year if not the best team overall.
