Recently I went through recruiting with a B+ team in the ACC.  It is the first time I've ever had this prestige level and am trying to catch up to the best of the conference, which is loaded (almost always 7 - 8 tourney teams).  I had 5 openings and a bunch of tourney money, about 125,000 total.  I decided to recruit depth, two 3 stars, a 2 star, and two others in the top 200, all with pretty good potentials in key areas.  2 other guys in the conference were in about the same position, same prestige.  One of them recruited one guy, a stud, for about 114k according to him on our conference board, and took 3 walk-ons.  The other took 2 studs (I think both top 40 players) and I believe 3 walk-ons.  Anyway, in general, which is the better way to build a team and try to get to an elite level, balance or studs with walk-ons or fill ins.  I know style of play and such can change the answer (I play man and flex), but I'm looking for general answers.  Thanks in advance.

I prefer balance... a lot of that has to do with a tendency to run an uptempo offense, but even with that factor removed, I think it's a better approach. The main reason is EEs... you can spend 50,000 on a stud recruit and lose him to the NBA before he even becomes an effective player. Of course, when the situation is right, I'll go after the top player in the region. But I've had more success when I've spread my money out on a few guys a step below...
