Return of the press.... Topic

So i was happy a while back when the stamina changes moved the press out of favor. As time has gone on, smart coaches have figured out how to make it viable again. D2 and D3 in all my worlds the press is by far the dominantly practiced D. In my most recent D2 tourney, I was the only team in my half of the bracket not a press team. The entire elite 8 was press.

Despite the quality of my teams, even bad press teams force me into 16 turnovers a game. Excellent ones, it's 24. I can't see how to compete when realistically every third possession is a turnover. Can anyone give some advice on how to recruit against the 6 press teams I'll have to play in the tourney? I'm already usually more athletic, equally fast, with solid D ratings across the board. It's nigh impossible to recruit all the stats I need, esp bh and pass in my bigs at these lower levels to compete. Do I go crazy with 3 guards and two SF to ensure I have the bh and pass in the 4-5 spot?

I don't want to have to abandon D2-3 because I can't beat the press every year. I'm at 2000+ wins but getting that elusive first title seems farther away now, rather than closer. I'll accept sitemails if coaches aren't comfortable with spreading the info here.

Thx in advance.

i don't know if you'll find anything useful by looking at my NJ Tech team but we've beaten several highly ranked press teams here early in the season, and won a NT last season playing a zone.  in the end i don't consciously do anything the same, i just gameplan for each opponent, but maybe you'll find some trends or consistencies that can help

Your Knight team did not have a realistic shot of winning the D2 title. 61/52 team ath/spd can win a D3 title, not a D2 title. D2 title teams need combined ath/spd in the 120+ range, and probably 125+ to be the favorite. M2M and zone coaches are making it difficult for themselves by going fancy in recruiting, trying to maximize a combination of ath/spd/def/bh/passing, and then trading some ath/spd for lp/per etc. Meanwhile, fcp teams are recruiting simply for ath/spd/def. And at the end of the day, the fcp teams are simply better than most of the m2m/zone teams in terms of talent.

And I just looked over your NT loss. You were playing 11 deep and had Lerma go 38min, playing tired in the final stretch. Your PF also played "tiring" near the end of each hal

That team has two seniors on it. They did as well as expected. I'm not talking about a one year sample here.
