Pre 1900 guys and those old AA teams Topic

I've never dabbled much in the pre-1900 players and especially not the "other" leagues - the really old AA - the early 20th century Fed

Can I generally consider players to be equivalent if their normalized # data is the same?  Will a pitcher with the same # numbers in ERC, OAV, WHIP, HR, etc be about the same from 1897 as from 1927?

How about a guy from the AA - does the # data create a basis for equal comparison or do I need to adjust further?

any guidance much appreciated

thanks, very helpful

so, a guy like Toad ramsey 1886 with ERC# 2.35, OAV # .212, WHIP # 1.14 and HR# .08 would be a good - not best ever but good pitcher. Fielding effect you mentioned might hurt him and one would need to work to manage a rotation with a 700 IP guy and say a couple of 200 IP guys......????

Toad Ramsey is a good pitcher in this game (for 80 million caps)....he will hurt your fielding (your players will have more errors) and trying to maximize those 700 IP is hard.   I think the break even point to maximize IP is around 600.   Most people can can all the innings out of 600 IP guy....the guys that really know what they are doing can use guys up to about 650ish (I think).

that also makes sense - I'll play with him in an exhibition league or two to learn about rotation management with these big innings

Using those high IP guys in an exhibition league is hard because of the way the league prorates fatigue. I'd be surprised if you could get more than 5 games out of them in an exhibition league, which would translate to 81, and around 650-700 IP in a regular league.

I'm on my phone so it's not easy to pull data or link to other threads, but there's a few threads about Silver King and John Clarkson that have some details on how to get more out of these high IP pitchers.
