Which of these two guys would you prefer to play, vL generally, as a COF?

My guy:  SteveMartin   He had one terrific year (WAY unsustainable) where he OPS'ed more than 1.000 and another where he OPS'ed just more than .700.  Both were in 200+ AB's.  The vast majority of his AB's were vL.

The guy I can get without giving up too much:  PhillipByrd  Byrd has one MLB season, 250-ish AB's.  .210-.258-.485 = .743 OPS, w/24 homers.  i suspect his AB's were vL and vR.

I'm leaning toward Byrd, and playing him in a low avg../mashing/all or nothing/cheap platoon in LF with JarredMatthews

What do you think?

How stupid am I?

EDIT: Forgot about YovaniRios   Could use him, too.  Pretty crappy golve, however.

I'd go with Martin.  Defense is better, and I think the average of his 2 seasons is about what you will get from him.  Plus, he's already on your team.

Martin/Matthews is not a crazy idea at all.  I like it.  Would play even better in a big hitter's paradise park, but should be good in a neutral venue like Syracuse.

Emphatically +1.  This is a very respectable LF solution for little money.

Thanks guys.  No love for Byrd, huh?

Offensively, Byrd might be very marginally better than Martin.  Maybe.  98 power is attractive, but I don't know if it's attractive enough to make up for ~30 Batting Eye points.  But the defense favors Martin.  And you already have Martin.  If you had Byrd, I probably wouldn't give up anything of value to acquire Martin.  Having Martin, I wouldn't give up anything of value to get Byrd.
