"Untapped" Potential Topic

Quick question...

Does a player's potential (esp. areas where they are low/high and high/high) erode over time if they aren't practiced heavily, or does their ratings potential have a numerical "cap" that can span their careers?

I'm running a young FB/FCP team and during recruiting I went for guys who have high potential in position-specific areas (including STA).  However, they don't have the best STA out of the gate.  I'm curious that if I were to beef up the STA practice minutes in their FR year that I'll lose out on the potential they have in other areas.  Essentially wasting it because it wasn't practiced early and often...

Thoughts?

Numerical cap.  The current rating may regress a bit if you actually zero out a practice category that isn't capped, but the potential is constant.

potential doesn't erode, but there is a cap. The only times I see where a player doesn't reach his potential is due to low WE.

On the other hand, a players ratings could erode if he doesn't get enough practice, but the potential will always be there.
