My first recruiting class & where do I start them? Topic

Hi, just wanted to get some feedback on my class. I plan on starting 2 of them and redshirting the 3rd. I'm going to be running a Motion offense:

PG Jim Howes 28 WE  - He's sortve a combo guard, but his perimeter wont get high enough to make him a good 3P shooter. I plan on starting him at SG as he's my highest perimeter shooter. And leave Curtis Nix at the PG position. Should I switch Howes to PG after Nix graduates?

Athleticism 28 High   Perimeter 78 Low
Speed 64 Low   Ball Handling 55 High
Rebounding 4 Low   Passing 59 High
Defense 13 High   Stamina 76 Low
Shot Blocking 1 Low   Durability 50 Average
Low-post 1 Low   FT Shooting   Average

High-High Defense, BH and Passing

------

C Anthony McMinn 20 WE - Low defense and WE I know, but I really liked his other attributes. I currently have Eric Badillo at Center. Who's my  best low post player. I want to start McMinn at PF and move him to C when Badillo graduates.

Athleticism 24 High   Perimeter 11 High
Speed 21 Low   Ball Handling 11 High
Rebounding 73 Average   Passing 13 Average
Defense 20 Low   Stamina 53 High
Shot Blocking 50 High   Durability 72 High
Low-post 70 Average   FT Shooting   Average

High-High SB, BH and ST/Dur

---

SF Walter Wolf 58 WE - I'm gonna redshirt this guy, I have a pretty good senior SF so plan on replace him with this guy.

Athleticism 55 Average   Perimeter 15 High
Speed 37 Average   Ball Handling 28 Average
Rebounding 21 Average   Passing 33 High
Defense 51 Average   Stamina 61 High
Shot Blocking 10 High   Durability 51 High
Low-post 33 Average   FT Shooting   High

High-High, SB, Per, Pass, ST/Dur

Mcminn is pretty darn bad with that DEF, wouldn't be a horrible idea to cut him.  I like Wolf a lot, should be a pretty darn good player.  I would consider redshirting howes (Needs some SERIOUS work at DEF and ATH) instead of Wolf as Howes cant contributed right now and Wolf can.  If Howes can start next year his WE will go up quite a bit and he may max out in some cores, btw he is defnitly a PG and a good one at that.

Wolf is definitely your best. McMinn and Howes concern me, though, because of their low WE and their low DEF. That is going to hurt.

Howes will do fine offensively, but he will never be starter worthy if that DEF doesn't improve immensely. And that could be a problem, with 28 WE. Which would mean he has to start. And he won't be starter worthy.

McMinn will be an okay role player off the bench. His ATH should improve plenty, and he will score a little. DEF will be a liability though, again.

As for Wolf, the dude is good. Congrats on signing him. He won't be a crazy good scorerr with that BH and LP, but the PER rating will be decent enough, and he will be good at passing. Overall, a solid recruit, with the ATH and DEF ratings to start.

Nice job for your first recruiting class. Just some general advice, try to recruit players with higher WE ( I usually try to avoid players under 30 unless they have excellent starting ratings or unbelievable potential) and higher DEF. It took me a while to learn that a player with solid ratings and potential in his cores is better than a player with high potential across the board but starting ratings in the teens.

Oh, and Howes will be a pretty good 3pt shooter. His PER and his BH will be high enough to make him an effective outside threat

I disagree with at least some of what was already said.  I think all 3 guys are solid D3 players.   Yes, defense and work ethic are issues for Howes and McGinn, but I think you'd be crazy to cut a C that will have LP and REB in the 80's.  His ATH will be fine and his SB may make up for his poor DEF a little.   And Howes will end up with SPD in the 70's, PER in the 80's (certainly good enough to be a good 3pt shooter) and BH/PASS close to 80.   Pretty solid despite the crummy ATH and DEF.   Lastly, I think with a redshirt season, Wolf will be good, but certainly not head and shoulders above the other two.  Overall, well done for a 1st recruiting class.  Good luck.

I agree they're all decent D3 players, and certainly don't cut McMinn unless you find a better player next season

thanks for the advice, would you guys agree with redshirting Howes instead of Wolf? My only reasoning for redshirting wolf is #1 his WE is double Howes and #2 I have a senior SF who's very good and I have no SG that's any good

You could play roberts at SG, play Wolf at backup SF.  With the McGinn I dont feel like he's good enough to start right now with the poor ATh and DEF but if he isnt played, he wont end up as a decent player (that would be why I think he should be cut) but if you're willing to take a not so good season It will pay off and the guy could be OK.

Ive tried redshirting Howes 9 times, he takes a WE hit each time. I have one more exhibition game, then season starts. At what point do I try to RS someone else instead?

before they play any time in actual games

They are all fine.  My thought reading this was I hope you play zone, cause if you do that's a fantastic class.  If you play man, its going to be a little harder, but certainly solid first class, and a group that can be on a NT team.
