This is about both both WIS and NCAA selection process. It's interesting to me that last 10 games is always seen as important, as is top 50 record. But it doesn't ever come into account when your top 50 wins took place.

I always find it funny that they have a metric (RPI) designed to determine how good a team, yet it is largely ignored. Every year when it comes down to tournament time in RL you constantly hear the talking heads making cases for one team or another, and then they show you the team's qualifications and they have an RPI around 100.

I don't think either of those posts are accurate.

First, last ten is no longer used in real life.

Second, RPI is a severely flawed metric, especially with all we have available to us in real life, but even then no one has EVER talked about a 100 RPI team making the tourney as an at large.  The worst RPI to ever make it was 67, and that was USC last year.

I don't know if last 10 is still used specifically or not, but it should be. And in many ways it is. They frequently talk about a team getting hot late.

It is true that last 10 games isn't used. Jeff Hathaway, head of the selection committee said "a win is a win no matter when it happens" (something like that).

And the worst RPI team to make the tourney was New Mexico, when it was 74 in 1999. They still managed to get a 9 seed and make the round of 32.

Alright, well I've found articles saying both.  Point is still the same.

If Hathaway really thinks that he is an idiot. Take a look at Xavier. Are they the same team now they were in December? In no way are wins in November the same as wins in February or March.

I'm not sure how the committee could consistently judge a win in November as being any less significant than a win in February.  The key word is 'consistently.'
