WCAA concludes infractions inquiry at St. Edward's. Finds 7 recruiting violations. Program placed on 1 year probation. 1 player suspended. Lose 2 scholarships during probation period. Banned from post-season play.

This is the harshest penalty I've ever seen

I saw that this morning. World: Allen.

But 7 violations is a lot...Banned from post-season play, does that include CT? If it does that that really hurts, losing the 2 scholarships for a year really hurts too becuase you have to take walk-ons and that hurts your other players improvements.

Coach should be show-caused.

folks say that there was a team with bad enough problems that WIS had the roster get wiped out in a plane crash

I remember hearing about that but never actually hearing the full story, anyone care to elaborate?

I remember that..Drawing a blank on what school. The owner used a ton of booster gifts to sign a  roster full of D1 level players to D3. It used to be you could offer unlimited high value gifts at D3--I believe it changed right after that.

Yep.  Congratulations to me on not being the dirtiest coach in Allen anymore!

And he effectively IS show-caused.  It'll be tough for him to right that ship - are there not firings at DII?  - and no one outside of DIII will ever hire him again.  I've never been docked a scholarship for violations, and even after I made the DI Elite Eight, I was not qualified for C- prestige schools at DII.

Remarkably, too, he didn't get his wins zeroed.  So that means that he didn't actually SIGN any of the players he threw the gifts at.

thats taking the no risk no reward philosophy to the max...

nope, no firings at d2. so he'll be fine, assuming he can coach.

At Duke in Knight i had over 50 recruiting violations, lost 4 scholarships, was banned from the postseason and got a sitemail from seble to smarten up or i'd get removed entirely from WIS.

This I don't understand - I mean, they're illegalish in the game, but they're not CHEATING or at all a violation of site policy.

Agreed they are part of the program...

Yeah, I would have sent him a sitemail back asking what grounds he had for that threat and saying that if he didn't want people to utilize the parameters of the game then they should remove them...
3/19/2012 4:59 PM
was the intention - or did it appear that the intention - was to destroy the program rather than sincerely playing the game?

I have seen coaches intentionally destroy a team because they were peaved and I can imagine admin telling someone to stop if it the behavior looked like an effort to hurt the program

on the other hand, as a terps fan who has systematically avoided ever coaching certain schools maybe it would be fun to see how bad I could make them?  "what if" as they say....
