if multiple teams are offering a max contract to the same player how does the the pick which team he will play for?

I'm assuming you also mean the max bonus too? Hitters like hitters parks and pitchers like pitchers parks. The quality of the fielding instructor also plays a part.

It is whoever offers the max contract first.

hitting/pitching coaches play a part. There also is a loyalty advantage for the former team if they are in the mix.

previous team is not in the mix. what about team success?

From my very limited experience (just completed my 2nd full season), I have noticed that the quality of the team has not mattered. Of course, more experienced owners may say differently.

+1

In my limited experience in bidding max contracts (both for pitching aces), I lost one and won the other.  In both cases, the pitchers went with the better coaches (including bullpen).  After losing the first one, when it was time to bid the next one, I made sure I had the top, or near the top, on both.  As a matter of fact, I gave up a pretty good pitching coach (88 or so I think), to try to get a better guy, which I did.  I budgeted coaching accordingly.  If you know a true ace is going to be on the market, you have to prepare with more than just the player budget.
