How do plus HRs work? Topic

wondering how to think about this with pitchers.

If I have two pitchers who are about equal in overall quality, but one gives up (normalized) more HRs does that mean that I should try to spot him in low HR parks?  will that turn some of his HRs into outs or doubles/singles?

Or, should I be looking at rates of non-HR hits and worrying about whether doubles become HRs?

or am I overthinking this???

Yes you are overthinking this. Use the pitcher with a higher HR/9# in low HR parks like the Astrodome. Also, besides HR pitchers don't have much control over hit type.

I think lost HR's turn into doubles in - HR parks.

Hit's turn into HR's in + Parks.

The event tree looks(something) like this:

In play?
Out?
HR?
triple?
double?

Doubles or triples, depending primarily on the ratio of doubles to triples of the hitter.

you need to look at the HR/9# vs the HR/9 RL number.  The + number gives you an idea as to how the pitcher did against the league that given season.    think about normalization.  Zub's comments are correct.
