I have a 2-year JUCO who I promised a start to. I have played a lot of seasons and have always fulfilled my promises to recruits, but I think I may rather start someone else in place of this guy. I'm wondering if anyone has done this with a guy who pretty much has reached max potential anyway. So what consequences might I see if I don't start him as promised? I don't see that dropping WE would make any difference. Anyone done this?

I got him as a bit of a stop gap measure and can use him, but I think we'll be better if another guy starts. Isn't the worst case scenario if he leaves after one year? That would be no big deal. I could use the opening next year.

Worst case scenario:  he transfers and you take a small hit to your rep.  Not that big of a deal really.

His WE will drop, you know that. He is likely to transfer after the season. Your reputation will suffer a hit - if you are A+ now you will probably be A- after. Big 6 schools won't hire you with an A- rep. That's about it AFAIK
