My team has 5107 pa's. I want to release a player with 300 pa. Why won't the sim let me release him.

Just a guess, but do you have exactly 12 hitters on your active roster, and this 300 PA player is one of them?  If so, I believe there's a rule about having at least 12 active hitters at all times.
