Bring up slow or rush talent? Topic

Should I bring up a 21 year old 2nd basemen (currently a 73 overall and good enough in all relevant attribute categories) who is projected to be a 97 overall or stick with my normal 2nd basemen who is a 76 overall and won't get much better? I guess what I am getting at is if there is any harm in bringing up a 21 year old too soon? Like for progression purposes, would it be better to slowly bring him up through the ranks? He has had much success already in rookie, low a and hi a. And since I don't really have a STUD 2nd basemen, I think it'd be cool to START a 21 year old for all time stat purposes and maybe add a spark to my team. He has amazing speed and baserunning and has been hitting well in spring so far. What do you guys suggest? I am fairly new to the game.

If you're talking about Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Rickey Washington, he's not a 2B.  But, no, it won't hurt his development if he PLAYS in the bigs.  If you bring him up to sit on the bench, it will.

If that is the guy, leave him in the minors because right now he is mediocre LFer. Also, I don't know if this still happens, but occasionally a guy will take a ratings hit when promoted too quickly. Outside of the Rule 5 Draft, I never promote a guy without getting him some time in the high minors...though I will jump guys from Low A to AA or AAA if I think they can produce at the ML level.

Right now, he's nothing special.  By promoting him to the bigs now, all you would be doing is rushing him towards his FA eligibility with not a whole lot of return in between.  Let him develop in the minors for a few more seasons.

He might be a 2B eventually, but he's definitely not now.

Mike T!!! hahahaha Awesome call man, that's exactly who it is, how'd you know??? Sorry guys, I am still somewhat new to all of this. The problem with him being an outfielder is I have pretty good outfielders too hahaha He is doing AMAZING in spring training, which if this is anything like real life, that means nothing? Lol. .364/.462/.773 in 6 games, 2 HR's, 7 Runs Scored, 3 Doubles, 4RBI's and 4 Stolen Bases. I know that's way too small of a sampling size, but if it isn't worth promoting him than I wil keep him in the minors for a while. Thanks for the tips guys!

ST is pretty meaningless.  Most of us play our younger prospects in ST.  So it's nothing more than a glorified LoA game for us.

You gave me enough info to figure it out.

If I played Rickey Washington at 2nd base this season would it be a tragic error? I.e. would he make TONS of errors?

He'll kick the few he actually touches.   His range is well below 2B standards.   There is nothing about him that screams "PUT ME IN COACH...I'M READY TO PLAY....LOOK AT ME....2B!!!

Ah, John C. Fogerty.

notrekane,

Washington is no 2nd baseman.  He would be probably be the worst fielding 2nd baseman in the league, I imagine.  I, too, play in Syracuse.  I would anticipate Washington to hit something like .240-.310-.460.  His speed will help him.  But he doesn't hit well enought to cover up his glove, so you russell is a far better choice at 2B.

Seo is a bonking LF, and Nunez is a nice RF so there is really no place in the OF for Washington to play.  Keep him down and in the lineup everyday there.

With Urich in AAA, he's a much bettr future 2B option than Washington.  Washington looks like a nice COF next season of the season after....if he continues to improve.

I am starting my first season and this guy is my best overall player.  They have him at SS.  From what I am reading here, is he not good enough to be a SS?

Just click on the position button next to their age to change his position.  Probably 50% of the players are labeled somewhere they shouldnt be playing.

No he's not a SS and shouldn't ever be.... but he's a phenominal 3B

Hi Kyle!

I agree with a_ersberg, he could win you a gold glove at 3rd.
