First impressions after my hiatus Topic

Since I've been away for 2+ years, this probably is a topic that has been discussed before.  I haven't gotten to experience much other than recruiting since my return, but it seems that the current sim engine makes recruiting pretty boring for the lower level Div 1 schools.  In real life, the elite players are only going to consider top schools, so I do like this aspect of the game, but it seems that  prestige eliminates a school from having an outside shot at players that are above their level.

This is something that I don't like.  I do think it should be much harder (and virtually impossible) for a school such as (my) Long Island University with a "C" prestige to go after top 50 talent, but I think it should be within the realm of possibility.  I don't know how it's capped with recruiting and someone may be able to enlighten me, but when I recruited the #62 overall recruit, I was immediately shot down.  Players like that do occasionally pick lower level schools to play for in real life, but in this sim, there is 0% chance of me landing them.

As it stands now, teams with "C" prestige will pretty much only battle teams with "C" prestige for recruits and with the large number of SIM AI, it's basically a pick and choose who you want and you get them, with only a rare recruiting battle.  It's pretty routine and pretty boring.

That said, I'm still excited to be back and can't wait for the exhibitions to begin.  I feel like this game is still in season 1 again.

When was the last time Long Island signed a top 100 player? You say it happens occasionally, but I can't think of any.

I never said LIU has signed a top 100 player, but there have been schools at the same prestige level that has signed someone.  Loyola Marymount signed Bo Kimble and Hank Gathers both who were highly touted HS players is an example that I can think of off the top of my head.

Fair enough but that was 20 years ago.

For 2010, I know Detroit and C. Michigan had huge advantages because McCallum and Zeigler had their father coach each school respectively. Zeigler transferred to Pitt because his dad got fired.

It is possible in WIS to recruit top 100 talent at small schools.  I was able to beat out an A school for a recruit as a C+ and an A+ school as a B-.

You just have to pick your spots/locations when you have distance/money advantages.

Then the A school had little interest.  The advantage an A
has over a C+ is massively overwhelming.  There is no way you won an actual battle that the A was trying in any meaningful way to win.

i must have missed the point of the original post.  you say it should be virtually impossible for a school like LIU (my dad's alma mater btw) to get a top flight recruit, and then are mad when a top flight recruit turned you down?  was that the only top recruit you went after??  did you get different messages with others??  you posted a list of good players who signed at schools not in the big 6 level, but were any of them recruited by top flight schools??  without that info, the list can be misleading.
last recruiting period in IBA, my Umass team battled Uconn down to the wire for the #1 overall C before seton hall swooped in on the last cycle and got him away from both of us.  I had a C+ prestige at the time vs his A+.  i shouldnt have had a shot, but he was in 2 other battles so i went for it.  so, if a C+ can almost land the #1 C, then a C will be able to get a top 50, provided you pick your spots right.  heck, at iowa i've had 5 stars tell me i'm a backup, but 4 stars tell me they've never heard of me.  it can be random sometimes.
that being said, glad you're back and Go Blackbirds

what I was getting at is that it should be virtually impossible for a school to out recruit the top tier schools, but that a recruit shouldn't necessarily shoot you down when you attempt to go after him.

Not really, I just had 6 open scholarships and a distance advantage.

Well Harvard signs people b/c Amaker is big name.  Fla Int'l had Isiah Thomas so another big name, zeigler and Mcallum both committed to play for their fathers.  The Akron and Fla Atlantic signings are inexplainable, and SIU was kind of a big deal in 2008.
