Question on getting Type D picks Topic

Let's say you draft someone and he demands more than you have available to pay.  As part of a rebuilding, you then go about trading away some salary to transfer budget and clear space so that you can offer him his demands (and thus, even if he turns you down, you leave the offer out there and you get a Type D in return).  Well, what happens if, while you're in the process of clearing that additional salary room, he then increases his demands by $3M?  Do I still only have to meet his initial demands in order to receive the Type D?  Or do I now have to meet his new demands since I didn't meet his initial demands until AFTER he had already raised them?

Thanks in advance.

He will only increase his demands sometime after you have made your first offer that met his initial demands.

what overeasy said.

And the usual caveats apply:  make sure you DO NOT withdraw your initial offer meeting his original demands until AFTER he rejects it.

He was asking $5.7M.  I offered the $5.4M I had available.  Then, while waiting for my trade to go through, he increased his demands to $9.7M.  AFTER that, I increased my offer to teh $5.7M he initially demanded.  So while I had made an offer, I had not yet met his initial demands before he increased them.

That is a new one to me then. I had a season where I could not meet the high initial demand of my first round pick and offered everything I had to him. I was not able to make a deal to transfer enough money to get him what he needed and the offer sat there through the entire regular season. He never rejected it or changed his demands.

argh:

Will,

You will not receive a Type D compensation pick. In order to receive a Type D compensation pick you must offer 100% of the player's initial demands. We do allow owners to offer a lower demanding price to see if the player will sign but that has no bearing on Type D compensation.

If you want to try to get a Type D compensation pick now you will have to offer him 100% of his updated demands and he must reject the offer.
