Sacrifice Bunts Topic

A few questions about sacrifice bunts.  In the advanced settings, where you can set the hitter's tendency to bunt from 0-5, is the tendency based on the number of sac bunts that hitter had in real life or is an arbitrary setting?  In other words, if a player had 5 sac bunts in real life would a setting of 5 increase his tendency based on the 5 bunts or would it be the same if the guy had had 10 bunts in real life?

Also, how do you know if a player is a good bunter or not? Are all players considered equal at laying down the bunt or is a player who had more sacrifices in real life more adept at bunting?

I'm in a league where I might not have drafted quite enough plate appearances and my team does have speed, so I'm curious if I can save a decent number of PAs throughout the season if I set a lot of my hitters at 5 for sac bunts.  I'm just hoping Sparky doesn't have my guys bunt when there are 2 outs.

In answer to your first question, the settings are relative to the player's historical performance.  To use SBs as an example, if a player was 1 for 1 in SB attempts in real life, setting him to 5 is not going to turn him into Rickey Henderson; it just means he will try to steal more than he did in RL.

The answer to Q2 is the same, I believe - since failed sac attempts are not recorded as such, just the gross number of sacs come into play.  So, a player with a lot of sacs is considered a good sacrificer regardless of the actual percentage of successful sacs he had.

The SB comparison hits home with me.  I thought that was the way it worked, but hadn't seen anyone discuss this before.  So in regards to strategy, I may not want to set a player who had zero or 1 sac bunts to 5 in the advanced settings.  Nor would I want to set a player who had 20 sac bunts to 5 since that might have him bunt 40 or 50 times.  Or does Sparky take into account the situation so that such a guy with 20 sac bunts wouldn't do so with one out and a guy on second base?

The player who had 20 sac bunts perhaps should be set to 2 or 3 and a player with say 5 sac bunts might be better off set to 5.
