Speed in the scoring equation.... Topic

This is purely for scoring......

1. I figure HIGHer speed (compared to the defender) is VERY valuable if you have a guard or small forward type with good BH and low LP or PER,   he type of guy who drives to the basket.

2. I figure AVERAGE speed (compared to the defender) is needed if you have a perimeter player who shoots mostly threes.

3. I figure speed is a non-issue if you have a high LP back to the basket type of player.

Is my logic sound?

I think in order for guards to drive to the bucket, they need decent (though maybe not great) LP.  SPD is always helpful, especially for guards.

but I also think that speed is relevant - cannot quantify - to a guard being able to get separation for his peri shot

Interesting, although when I think of the best 3 point shooters in the NBA right now, I think of Steve Novak, Matt Bonner, and someone like Ryan Anderson. None of those players have that great of speed. The best 3 point play usually come out of a play that creates a open shot, which doesn't require the greatest speed. Although I do believe that a high stamina is a must for a 3 point shooter if they are constantly using screens.

heck if I know, but I tend to think of speed for peri as sort of the quickness to get open for that 12-15 shot (that no one takes much anymore in real life.....)

Some of the best three shooters I've had were relatively low speed, but high BH, per and ATH.

I would be stunned if the engine took this into account whatsoever.

bh and speed are both very valuable for 3 point shooting.

the "against the other slower defender" type of thinking doesnt really work in HD, in my experience. HD doesnt go, wow, this guy is faster, hes going to blow by that other dude. i think instead, they come up with "abilities" - as in, the guard defending you has a defensive "ability" based on his def, ath, spd, etc - and really the individual rating comparisons between players don't have any impact.

3 point shooting is the same way. per, then spd, bh, ath, sta, iq, all factor into your shooting ability. you can have less than exceptional ratings in any 1 category, great ratings in all the others, and shoot a good %. the only thing is you REALLY have to have good per to take and make a lot of 3s (can have a good 3pt % with lower per and less 3pt shots, though).
