So if I were to promise a start to a recruit, how many games would fulfill the promise? I dont see why a recruit would trip out if he started 70% of the games, but then again, this is not real life. Anyone have a rough estimate on this?

used to be 80% was safe - now I think a bit more than 80% may be needed

in my limited experience post change, i think the answer is 60, 70 or 80 depending on the kid...experiment and find out - he'll let you know as soon as you slip below, then just get him back in and make sure he doesn't fall below again...

I have not seen anything that low, dac. For mins or starts. 80 is really only the safe rule of thumb. (To be honest, I think there's very, very little difference between various players on this.)

I had one at 70, one at 80. At the time there was a thread up where someone said they had seen 60. I've not seen 60 myself though, but have seen 70 and 80.

eta: one of them was at UCF - Neidig maybe? He was the 70% one. I had another kid on Marquette that complained when he went below 80.

I've had guys complain as soon as they got below 80, as soon as 10 games into the season (i.e. 7 of 10 games started led to a complaint).

Question, since this is not real life, why wouldn't he trip out if he didn't start "every" game?  I mean, he was promised to start, right?

But to answer your question, somewhere around 80% is usually pretty safe.  Usually.
