Playoff team avail. in 1975/76 &1976/77 Prog. !! Topic

We have 1 opening for a double season progressive that started with the 1967/68 & 1968/69 seasons, the first two years of the ABA. This is season 5,1975/76 & 1976/77.

This fifth season you will be able to select which of 2 seasons you want to use for each of your players (assuming they are active both seasons). This season (5) you may use 1975/76 or 1976/77, the following season (6) you will be able to use 1977/78 or 1978/79 etc.

This has been a very stable league. We had 18 different owners for season 1 as 6 owners took 2 teams each. 16 of these original owners are still in the league and over time we have recruited 7 new owners with only 1 owner now having 2 teams. One of the new owners has decided not to continue, even though his team, as described below, has imoroved dramatically from season 3 to season 4

The first four seasons have been very successful and enjoyable. We are currently in the playoffs for season 4 and are posting keepers for season 5. The new owner will be able to decide which players to keep. . This fifth season's rookies include Robert Parish, Alex English, Adrian Dantley, Dennis Johnson, Dan Roundfield, Alvan Adams, Gus Williams, World Free, John Lucas and David Thompson  among others. There will be a 2-6 round draft (varying by team depending on need) for available players (about 90-95% of whom are rookies). There will also be an add/drop round following the draft. As noted below, there will be plenty of minutes available.

The double season format lends itself to dramatic turnarounds. The Seattle Supersonics went from 17-65 in season 1 (league worst) to 71-11 in season 2 and the league championship (aided by the draft of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar). The Supersonics were 68-14 in season 3 and then declined to 28-54 in season 4. My Portland Trailblasers went from 66-16 in season 1 and the league title (led by Wilt Chamberlain) through a steady decline to 28-54 in season 4. The Toronto Huskies went from 19-63 in season 3 to 67-15 in season 4 (their #1 draft pick was Moses Malone).

Owners expressing interest will be given temporary access to our private forum, which contains full league rules, where a list of available players for the third season will be posted as soon as all keepers are posted, and which is where the draft will be held.

One concern expressed prior to the start of our first season was whether there would be sufficient minutes available. That proved to be a non-issue. A minimum of 19,680 minutes are required and teams averaged around 23,000 minutes. My 2 teams in season 1 had 29,000 + and 27,000 + minutes.

Rather than managing teams with recent players this is an opportunity to manage teams from an older era.

No rookies, no WW. Trades of players OK and draft picks current season only.

Drafts subsequent to the initial draft will be in inverse order of regular season record, with the tiebreaker being total point differential (points scored less points allowed) with the team with the worse point differential drafting earlier. However, as an anti-tanking provision for the 1st round only there will be a weighted lottery among the 4 teams with the worst record for the first 4 draft positions. The same tiebreaker will be used for these positions.

Since this is a progressive league I do request that you not sign up unless you expect to be able to particpate for at least 5 seasons.

If interested please sign up below and you will be given temporary access to the private forum. You will need to post a keeper list for season 5 as soon as possible after you have reviewed the team's roster and decided which players to keep.

The team available is the Los Angeles Lakers.

Following is the season 4 roster for the Lakers:

PG Fred Carter, Foots Walker, Herm Gilliam
SG Gail Goodrich, Jimmy Walker
SF Keith Erickson,Scott English
PF Dan Issel, Bobby Jones, Gerald Govan
C   Bob McAdoo, Jim Fox

Of the above players, Scott English retired after season 4 and must be replaced and Gerald Govan is of minimal value in season 5 and should be cut.

Issel, Bobby Jones and McAdoo will all be stars in season 5 and Goodrich, Jimmy Walker and Carter are all good starters. These 6 will contribute 17,000 minutes while Erickson, Gilliam, Foots Walker and Fox would contribute another 6,000 minutes, although Fox and possibly one other might be considered as a cut.

Issel has 4 excellent seasons plus 1 good season left (in the double season format-he actually has 10 seasons left in his career), Bobby Jones has 2 excellent and 2 good seasons left, McAdoo 2 escellent and 1 good season, Goodrich has 2 good seasons left , Jimmy Walker and Carter just one good season.

In the double season format change takes place quickly but this team is poised to contend for several seasons.

The team improved from a  21-61 record in season 3 (league worst) to a 47-35 record in season 4, a 26 game improvement. I believe it should be able to improve further in season 5 with the addition of at least one good draft pick. The team will be drafting 17th.

This seems like a very interesting league. I would like to learn more about it and possibly join the league if possible. Let me know if that is still possible.

Thanks
