do any of the following give a clue about whether a recruit is more likely to take a rs or are they cosmetic / leftovers from dillemas:

"Overall, I think he's got what it takes to be a DII All-American before all is said and done. He could contribute at DI with a maybe a redshirt season under his belt."

"BTW, seems like your average kid when it comes to playing time, starting, etc."

"On a side note, I sat next to his girlfriend's mother at the game and she really loves him. Couldn't talk enough about how much of a gentleman he was."

I have never had a kid reject a RS when it says both of the following...

"BTW, seems like your average kid when it comes to playing time, starting, etc."

"On a side note, I sat next to his girlfriend's mother at the game and she really loves him. Couldn't talk enough about how much of a gentleman he was."

I am not sure if that is coincidence or connected, but that has been my experience.

The "average kid" one is indicative of being more accepting of a redshirt possibly (along with the message of the kid sitting in the fourth quarter and cheering his teammates on). The girfriend's mother one I'd never considered as being a possible redshirt indicator...I always though that one was more dilemma-related...might have to change my thinking after wjat gvsujulius said. The D2/D1 is pretty much just cosmetic I think, hinting at the general overall ability level of the player in question but not speaking to any greater/lesser willingness to actually take a redshirt.

FYI the recruit @ issue did NOT accept the rs on the 1st try (stating that I did not inform him of rs during recruiting). Attempt 2 underway!

The asst. coach's remarks do not indicate anything about the recruit's behavior or potential, but do indicate the approximate level the recruit will consider during that cycle.  You'll notice that the messages change as the recruit is dropping down.  Down to "definitely in our league" and/or "sat next to his dad/uncle" (I forget which).  I notice this a lot because I don't always send 10 scouting trips the first cycle, but slow pitch a few at a time.  I'm that cheap.

The prime RS indicator is "Rides the Bus".  Second, "sat in the 4th quarter" or "asked to come out so senior could play".   I imagine that "average kid" could mean something with regard to RS, but I think of it as neutral.  My guess is that it has more to do with likelihood of transfer at D1, when not given enough PT.

IMHO, the girlfriend's mother is an idiot.  Her opinion may be safely disregarded.
