What do you think of a league commisioner selling his AAA players for cash. The players involved are above average AAA, being sold for about $500,000 each, in an 8 championships max league. As a manager in that league, is there any reason not to veto those trades?

In my opinion, absolutely yes, especially if there is no WW option. Likely, someone has identified his AAA players and they are worth much more than the $500K he's getting in return, even if the WW is an option and he plans to hit the WW with his extra cash.

Most above average guys are pretty terrible. In a more experienced league I would think that's a fair price. But there's a chance that Frazzman is right and someone cherry-picked the seller's best AAA players by identifying them. So I'd probably veto them.

Interesting. The players sold were essentially worthless, except as inning eaters or PA fatigue subs.. My objection had to do with selling such players for cash with which the seller could hit the WW. There are many low salaried players who could be much more utile than an above average AAA players. Maybe I over reacted? This is the only league I have ever been in where any player has been sold outright, for cash. I don't even remember one where there was a player and cash involved.

This post has a rating of , which is below the default threshold.
What it boils down to me is:

Is there an advantage in gaining 500K?

If there is (and the only one I can think of is using the WW) then it's a fair deal.   If there isn't, I would probably veto.

The only other reason I can think of is if one team is AWFUL and someone is giving up their AAA players to help them be competitive. I am cool with that as well.

I never thought of collusion. The buyer got innings and PAs, both teams are in contention for their division leads. One is in first place by 3 games or so (the seller) the other has been streakier, but remains in contention. I think he is a game out of first as I write. I was thinking like this: League begins, we all know we have 6/2 AA AAA players coming, so we dump our eight 200k players, and promote the AAA. As the season progresses, we have ID'd AAA, decided if we want them, need them, or not, maybe we'd be better off with a low salary stud.

I have sold AAA players for as little as $1. That extra 200k dumped from my payroll can really help around the deadline.

Who has an extra 500k to spend on AAA players?

not enough information. I've seen theme leagues where AAA weren't needed because fatigue wasn't an issue. if they are useful I'd probably veto. either way it's sounds like a weird trade.

I rarely ever veto owners' proposed trades, and on the rare occasions that I do its because an experienced owner is trying to fleece and unsuspecting newbie out of pretty good AAA players for IMO worthless AAA guys, i.e., basically junk, and thereby gain a windfall of a competitive advantage.  For instance, I've seen owners essentially steal AAA players such as RL 08 Felipe Lopez, 08 Aaron Miles, to name a few, for a bunch of useless junk simply because the owners who had those AAA guys didn't know what they had. In a situation like that, I will veto such a trade, especially if its to a very experienced and successful owner.  And in a situation such as your's, you'd be morally right in vetoing the type of trades which you mention because considering the fact that we're talking about above average AAA players, whether its for innings or PAs, the guy receiving the players are getting much more value than they could get off the waiver wire for $500K.
