I just watched a piece on Baseball Tonight on the continued rise of Sabermetrics, with more major league teams beefing up their statistical staffs to make decisions on the field.
Which made me wonder if there could be an on-field component of Advanced Scouting added, in order to make ADV more relevant. I could see something like: "Teams with higher Advanced Scouting budgets are more likely to employ advanced statistical analysis, like defensive shifts, situational pinch hitting and intelligent use of Relief Pitchers, in order to gain a tactical in-game edge."
It could even go farther by providing more statistics to teams that have money spent in this area, like UZR, WAR, fPIP, or whatever, and some tips from the "statistics department" about how to better set their lineup based on this analysis. You could get notes like "Your Director of Statistics recommends that you use Pedro Velazquez at SS more often, based on his better range and glove"
It's kind of geeky but isn't this whole game kind of geeky?
